Sikkim is the first state to launch Mission Frontier. Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Lepcha appreciated the vision of Mission Frontier. He said “Mission Frontier is an important and unique initiative and it will serve the nation. In today’s world, students must be able to express themselves freely and achieve their goals. This initiative will provide them with opportunities and train them for the 21st century. Congratulations and I hope this initiative continues to grow.”

Mission Frontier aims to enable all the border schools in Sikkim with the best quality digital learning infrastructure, best quality National Education curriculum. This curriculum mapped to the New Education Policy, is AI enabled, personalized and adaptive but still operates off-the-grid. This approach offers a unique way of creating national communities. The aim is to take this initiative to all frontier regions such as Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh & Uttrakhand in the next 6 months.

As part of Mission Frontier, DigiLabs are being established in all 766 schools in Sikkim, with 85 schools already completed. These DigiLabs consist of 10-30 tablets on average, depending on the school’s size, and are equipped with personalized and adaptive technology. Additionally, these DigiLabs operate on solar power, off-grid electricity, and off-grid internet technology, effectively addressing the challenges faced by remote locations. The PAL Program called CG PAL implemented in these DigiLabs will play a vital role in identifying learning gaps among students, personalizing content, and providing teachers with detailed reports on student progress. This initiative marks a significant milestone as the most remote schools in Sikkim will now have the ability to track students’ learning outcomes, utilize technology for remedial purposes, and seamlessly integrate into the state education data systems.
