Model competitions held to mark the National Space Day

ALIGARH  : Umrah Arshad from the Department of Chemistry emerged as the winner under the university category in a Model Competition, organized by the Faculty of Science, Aligarh Muslim University to mark the National Space Day, 2024.

Syed Tameem Ali (Department of Geology) was declared as the first runner-up and a team comprising Sneha Saraswat, Hifza Khan, Fardeen Khan and Madhav Saraswat (all from the Department of Geology) was judged as the second runner-up.

Under the school category, the model of Afreen Fatima, Faiza Khalid, Iffat Zaheer and Ifra Ashraf (Al-Barkaat Public School) was declared the winner, while the model of Raaina Khan and Ruqaiyya (Aligarh Public School) was judged as the first runner-up and the model of Raghib Sohrab and Amaan Shahzad (STS School) as the second runner-up.

The models of Vikrant Chaudhary, Prashant Upadhyay, Love Gautam and Prabas Attri (AMU ABK High School Boys), and of Mohammad Shuja and Abdullah Javed (STS School AMU) were given the consolation prize.

A total of 85 students participated in the competition and created models of satellites and various space missions, and other science-theme projects including life possibility on other planets, etc.

The Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, and the Chairman, Department of Physics, Prof. Anisul Ain Usmani congratulated the students for their endeavours.

In a similar competition held at the Department of Geology, the model of the team comprising Hifza Khan (MSc), Sneha Saraswat (MSc), Fardeen Khan (BSc) and Madhav Saraswat (BSc) won the first and second places, while the model of the team comprising Maryam Shahid (MSc), Layeba Farooqi (MSc) and Waseem (BSc) won the third place.

The Chairperson, Department of Geology, Prof. Kr. Farahim Khan appreciated the work of the participating teams and urged them to keep participating in such scientific events.
