Mohammad Reza Shajarian, legend of Iranian music passed away on 8 October 2020
Mohammad Reza Shajarian was a legend and a living monument of Iranian traditional music. He was also known for his skills in Persian calligraphy. At early age, he began studying the traditional classical Radif. Radif of Iranian music is registered on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage for Humanity in 2009.
Mohammad Reza Shajarian received UNESCO Picasso medal and Mozart medal, as a recognition of his unparraled talent, and commitment to artistic freedom. Shajarian who is one of the most celebrated world music artists, is widely considered the embodiment of the perfect singer and a major source of inspiration to other musicians. His singing is widely believed to be technically flawless, powerful, and strongly emotional.
He was also awarded with the France’s Chevalier of the Legion of Honor which is the highest decoration awarded by the French government, in June 2014.
His famous religious performance of “Rabbanaa ربّنا ” prayer was registered on National Intangible Cultural Heritage List of I.R. of Iran in 2017.
