Monash research ranks in 2019 Altmetric Top 100
Research led by Monash University’s Professor Flavia Cicuttini from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine features in this year’s Altmetric Top 100, ranking 50th out of the 2.7 million research outputs tracked by Altmetric.
The research, published in the British Medical Journal on 30 January, 2019, achieved an Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) of 2960, placing it in the top five percent of all research outputs scored by Almetric.
The AAS provides an indicator of the amount of attention Professor Cicuttini’s research received, with the score derived from an automated algorithm and represents a weighted count of the amount of attention received.
Provost and Senior Vice-President Professor Marc Parlange remarked on the significant achievement.
“To have Monash research recognised in the Altmetric Top 100 is a truly exceptional achievement. Congratulations to Professor Cicuttini and her team for this remarkable recognition, which further demonstrates Monash’s endeavour to foster high-performing researchers to undertake research of the highest international quality.”
Professor Cicuttini said she’s extremely proud to have her study acknowledged in the list, and of her team’s dedication, passion and enthusiasm.
“I’m honoured and grateful to have our study included in this year’s Altmetric Top 100, which explored the impact of eating breakfast on weight loss. Against what would have been such a competitive field, I’m delighted to see it place 50th and am incredibly proud of the team for their efforts and ongoing commitment.”
Professor Cicuttini’s research was among the highest-scoring papers published by the British Medical Journal in 2019, ranking 13th out of over 45,000 articles.
The Altmetric Top 100 is an annual list of research that has generated significant international online attention and discussion – from patents and public policy documents to mainstream media, blogs, Wikipedia and social media platforms. The list has been released every year since 2013.
It typically features research from a variety of disciplines, written by authors from all corners of the globe. This year’s list features works published in 43 different journals, preprint servers and government websites.
