Monash University raises five places to rank 80th in Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2021

New Delhi: Monash has held firm in the world’s top 100 universities, rising by an impressive five spots in the prestigious ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2021 to rank 80th in the world and 6th in Australia.

The University’s overall ranking improved five places, up from 85 in 2020, once again remaining in the top 100 of the 2000+ universities ranked by ARWU every year.

Monash has increased in Highly Cited Researchers (HiCi), Papers Published in Nature and Science (N&S), Papers Indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index (PUB); and Per Capita Performance (PCP) scores.

Research outputs – N&S and PUB – remain our strongest indicators. Monash ranked equal first in Australia for Papers Published in Nature and Science (N&S), up from third in 2020; and third in Australia for Papers Indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index (PUB), up from forth in 2020.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC said the 2021 results recognise the significant work being done by Monash researchers, and the positive impact it is having on communities around the world.

“These results are testament to the ongoing commitment and dedication of our researchers, who have continued to publish world-class research.”

Monash also featured prominently among the world’s most elite institutions in ShanghaiRanking’s 2021 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, released earlier this year. We ranked sixth in the world for Nursing, sixth for Mining & Mineral Engineering, and 10th for Metallurgical Engineering.
