Monash University stands by flood victims in NSW and QLD

Monash University sends its support to interstate colleagues in New South Wales and Queensland after major flooding devastated the area.

The record-breaking floods have caused significant damage and devastating loss to homes and properties throughout these local communities. While conditions have eased in some areas, the clean-up continues.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC offered her support to those suffering from these devastating floods.

“This is a very difficult time both for people who are directly affected, and those who may have family and friends in the area,” Professor Gardner said. “We also extend our sympathy in relation to any disruption that is being caused to universities in affected areas and, in particular, to their students and staff.”

“It is also a stark reminder of the threat of climate change to our environments and lives, and the urgent need for effective action to mitigate this threat.”

If you or anyone you know has been directly affected by the floods, there is support available which can be accessed from the Services Australia website.

Monash University staff and students, and their immediate family, can access the University’s Employee Assistance Program and counselling services.
