DC Budgam flags-off bikers rally, student march for massive anti- drug awareness

BUDGAM : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, S F Hamid today flagged-off bikers’ rally from Railway Station Budgam and students’ march from Behisht Zehra Park to launch a month-long Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign across the district.

The DC also administered a pledge against drugs to officers and officials at Conference Hall Budgam.

Speaking on the occasion, DC called for involvement of all stakeholders and urged all employees to play a responsible role to fight the drug menace from the society as their moral responsibility.

He said the message of the pledge should be taken to everyone in the family, friends and society to make our district and society drug free.

The DC stressed on coordination among the concerned departments to ensure complete ban on the sale and supply of over the counter drugs to fight the menace at grassroots level. He emphasized on involvement of religious leaders, NGOs and PRIs in the Month-long Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign for maximum and effective reach of awareness against drugs in the district.

He said every citizen has a role to play and contribute towards making the society drug free adding that during the month-long campaign, all field functionaries including Asha and Aganwadi workers, VLWs shall be sensitized about the drug abuse and its harmful effects.

The DC said that resources persons from the education, health and other relevant fields shall thoroughly speak on the drug abuse, its effects, health deterioration, treatment, recovery, counselling and rehabilitation during awareness programmes.

Besides interactive sessions, public speaking, moral lectures and other series of events on relevant subjects shall be conducted for all particularly vulnerable groups across the district.

Earlier, the bikers and students marched through various markets including Old and Bus stands of Budgam to raise massive anti- drug awareness among masses.

Among others, ADC, GM DIC, CEO, ACD, ACP, DSWO, DYSSO were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, programmes under the Abhiyan were also held in all 17 blocks of the district, where resources persons from health and education fields spoke threadbare on the drug menace.

The programme was attended by a large gathering of youth, parents, students, PRIs, Asha workers for Mega awareness regarding side effects of drug abuse and how to recognize drug abusers at home.
