Mulberry plantation drive kick-started at Bandipora
Bandipora: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bandipora, Zahoor Ahmad Mir on Thursday kick started Mulberry plantation drive in the district by planting Mulberry sapling in the premises of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Patushai, Bandipora.
The Deputy Director Sericulture on the occasion informed that the Sericulture Department has a target to plant 45,000 mulberry trees this year in the district.
While speaking on the occasion, the ADC highlighted the importance of sericulture sector and urged for massive plantation of mulberry saplings on vacant land, institutions during the current plantation season with multiple objective of arresting pollution and conserving environment besides ensuring availability of mulberry foliage for silkworm rearing.
He said that the department shall organize special training programmes for the cocoon rearers to train them in modern techniques for cocoon rearing that will help them to improve their production.
He urged the youth to focus on self employment oriented sources and avail the benefit of various schemes that help the unemployed youth to start their own income generating units.
On the occasion, Programme coordinator said that they will organise a training programme for youth to train them for mulberry and other sericulture related farming
Among others, Deputy Director Sericulture Peerzada Khursheed Ahmad, Scientists of KVK including Dr Tariq sultan, Dr Hilal Ahmad Malik and Dr Bilal Ahmad Bhat besides cocoon rearers were present on the occasion.
