MUMKIN scheme attracts many Reasi Youth to gain self-employment

Upma Sharma with PG degree among 154 beneficiaries gets respite from joblessness

 

REASI : The MUMKIN scheme, a self-employment programme under the J&K Government’s Mission Youth initiative, has brought respite to many Reasi youth, who were reeling under joblessness. Upma Sharma with a Post Graduate Degree is among 154 beneficiaries whose cases have been approved under the scheme which promotes employment in the transport sector.

The customized Livelihood Generation Scheme, the youth of J&K are facilitated to procure light commercial vehicles for starting a sustainable livelihood. Under the scheme, the beneficiary is provided financial Assistance for purchase of light commercial vehicle (load Carrier) on the subsidy of amounting to Rs.160000/= or 20% of the on road price of the vehicle (whichever is minimum).

In District Reasi, 154 cases of MUMKIN has been approved by the District Level Implementation Committee out of which 34 have been provided Subsidy. Vehicles have been handed over to 24 beneficiaries till 23/12/2021 and they have started to earn their livelihood.

Upma Sharma, resident of Nagar Tehsil Pouni and a Postgraduate has become a proud owner of a Commercial Vehicle under MUMKIN scheme. Upma was unemployed and so was her husband 37, who had to feed a 4 member family including his parents. Both husband and wife applied for Government jobs several times but could not make it. After losing hope to get a job in the Government sector, they planned to start their own business.

Upma Sharma came to know about the MUMKIN Scheme on the social media platform. Losing no time, she visited the District Employment and Counsilling Centre Reasi and got all the details of the MUMKIN Scheme and applied for the same on July 23, 2021. On June 26, she figured among 70 candidates selected through Draw of Lots by the DLIC. After following the prescribed procedure she got the vehicle on first go. Today she is a proud owner of a vehicle which not only earns livelihood to her family but also provides employment to one more person to whom she hired as a driver.
