MY YOUTH MY PRIDE: Sports activities being held from dawn to dusk
JAMMU : As Phase II of My Youth My Pride initiative entered 3rd day in district Samba, a Table Tennis event was organized in Indoor Stadium Samba, to engage more youth in sports activities and to provide a platform to showcase their skills.
Around 50 tennis players from the district competed in different age categories. The knockout matches of the championship were in progress when the reports last came in.
Earlier, Gharu Ram Deputy Superintendent of the Police inaugurated the event and presided over the function as chief guest while Principal, Navodhaya Vidyalaya Higher Secondary, Danote, Samba was the guest of honor.
Large number of people were present at the venue which included family and supporters of the players besides officials from other government departments along with officials from Sports Council which included SP Singh Manager MA Stadium, Arshi Nad Judo Coach, Gurcharan Singh Athletics Coach, Asad Sharma TT Mentor, and Manjit Singh Korfball mentor.
In the meantime, a Kho-Kho Tournament was conducted at the tourist reception centre Chatroom for both boys and girls. The chief guest on the occasion was Salim Raja, Sarpanch of Chatroom while as a guest of honor was Mohammad Irfan Naik, Principal of Furqan Academy Chatroo.
The tournament is being officiated by mentor Sandeep Singh Jamwal, Rohit Chohan yoga Mentor under the supervision of Satpal Singh, Manager KK Hakkhu Stadium Jammu.
Participants of these events are very excited to be part of special sports initiatives and demand that such programs should become regular features of the union territory’s annual sports calendar. They also applauded the role of the Secretary Sports Council for organizing events of such repute and purpose.
A Table Tennis competition under a similar program was in progress at sports stadium Poonch and likewise, a Kabaddi tournament was being played in Government Higher Secondary School, Ramban.
The final matches of the Kho-Kho Championship were held at the sports stadium Kathua. Dharamvir Singh former first-class cricketer distributed the prizes among the winners and runner-up teams in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
Municipal Councillor Rahul Dev Singh, Kathua inaugurated the MYMP Hockey tournament in sports stadium Kathua today. Four boys’ and four girls’ teams will lock horns with each other in two separate events in the race for the top spot.
The first match in the girl’s category was played between Hiranagar Hockey Club and Jasmergarh Hockey Club which was won by the latter by a margin of 2 goals to 1. The tournament is being played in a 5-a-side format. The boys’ match was in progress when the report was last received.
