Nagoya University Athletes Chosen for Japan’s National Sports Festival

Three skiers from Nagoya University have been selected to compete at the 2024 National Sports Festival of Japan, which will be held in Yamagata Prefecture from Wednesday February 21st to Saturday February 24th.

 

Katsuhito Tobinaga, of the Graduate School of Engineering, qualified in the Osaka Prefecture regional competition, coming in 2nd place in the 10km classic and 10km freestyle cross country skiing races. Sakino Niwa, of the Graduate School of Medicine, and Kaori Nakano, of the School of Engineering, qualified in the Aichi Prefecture regional competition. Niwa placed 2nd, and Nakano 1st, in the 5km classic and 5km freestyle races.

The National Sports Festival of Japan is an annual event which takes the best junior and adult athletes from each prefecture, who compete in sports as diverse as swimming, rugby and bowling. Athletes compete for the Emperor’s Cup, with female athletes additionally eligible for the Empress’s Cup. Good luck to Katsuhito, Sakino and Kaori!
