NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu organises lecture on ‘Communication is Science’

 

JAMMU : NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu under the guidance of Prof. J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu organized a guest lecture for the students on “Communication is Science – Technical Writing & Data Presentation Skills”.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Rajarshi Roy Burman, Principal Scientist, Division of Agricultural Extension, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. In his lecture Dr. Burman gave detailed information about Communication with respect to writing and presentation and said that for effective communication among various factors communication skills of both source and receiver are important. He said Communication skills encompass verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Prof. Burman also addressed the problems faced by students, writers and presenters while writing research papers for a journal and presenting the lecture through powerpoint mode. He further mentioned rules to be followed while preparing presentations. He further said that Writing skills are of prime importance in written communication. He also discussed benefits associated with technical writing for a student and researcher. After the lecture there was a healthy interaction in which Dr. Burman answered the queries of students about the topic. Earlier, Prof. B. C. Sharma, Head, Agronomy and Principal Investigator, NAHEP-IDP gave an overview of the NAHEP-IDP project. Prof. Manish Sharma, Nodal Officer, NAHEP-IDP and Convener of the programme welcomed the esteemed speaker and participants.

The lecture was attended by over 50 participants comprising students and faculty members. At the end vote of thanks was presented by Prof. R. K. Salgotra, Coordinator, School of Biotechnology and Nodal Officer, NAHEP-IDP. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Anil Bhat, Co-Convener of the programme and Associated Scientist NAHEP-IDP.
