Nanjing University Analyzes Xi Jinping’s Article on China-Kazakhstan Relations
On the afternoon of July 4, the International Affairs Office (Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office) (hereinafter referred to as the International Affairs Office) held an enlarged meeting of the office meeting to collectively study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s signed article published in the Kazakhstan media, “Working Together to Write a New Chapter in China-Kazakhstan Relations”. Vice President Lu Yanqing attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The Director of the International Affairs Office Gu Cheng presided over the meeting. Representatives from various offices of the International Affairs Office attended the meeting and talked about their learning and insights.
At the meeting, Gu Cheng led everyone to carefully study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s signed article “Working Together to Write a New Chapter in China-Kazakhstan Relations” and his important instructions on the Kazakhstan Branch of Northwestern Polytechnical University. He said that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on the Kazakhstan Branch of Northwestern Polytechnical University have profound implications for the internationalization of colleges and universities, and have clear guidance and strong encouragement for the future direction of open education at Nanjing University. Our school started internationalization early and has achieved a series of outstanding school-running achievements such as the Sino-US Center and the Sino-German Institute of Law. In recent years, under the complex and changing international environment, our school’s internationalization work has continued to develop, and the construction of Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions has been promoted with high quality. Nanjing He College has set sail; accelerated the implementation of the “Strive Action”, improved the level of internationalization of education, strengthened strategic analysis and top-level design, and carried out a “big discussion” on internationalization work, promoting work improvement through mechanism and system innovation. Inspired by the important instructions of the General Secretary on the Kazakhstan Branch of Northwestern Polytechnical University, our school should continue to learn in-depth from the experience of internationalization of education, further break through on the existing basis, continue to adhere to a higher level of “bringing in” and more efficient “going out”, and strive to build a new pattern of open exchanges.
Cao Yi, deputy director of the International Affairs Office, said that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s signed article is insightful, and the experience of the Northwestern Polytechnical University Kazakhstan Branch being built efficiently in a short period of time has strengthened our confidence in promoting overseas education. In particular, the “school within a school” construction model is worth learning from. By relying on the support of cooperative universities, hardware investment costs can be saved and the number of students can be ensured; by introducing mature faculty and curriculum systems, teaching in English can reduce communication barriers and improve the quality of talent training. Many of our school’s advantageous disciplines have a solid foundation for scientific research and teaching cooperation with overseas universities. In the future, we should further leverage on this opportunity, learn from the successful experience of Nanhe College, and make a reasonable layout to promote the dual improvement of international talent training and scientific research cooperation.
Cai Dandan, deputy director of the International Affairs Office, said that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s signed article was inspiring and provided inspiration for us to strive to expand our international work. Our school can deepen exchanges through high-level visits, match the needs and expectations of both China and foreign countries, and strive to promote cooperation with key universities and key fields in countries along the “Belt and Road”, and further accelerate the construction of talent training systems such as international courses. Through the full linkage of international work lines, functional departments and colleges and departments, we will carry out “package” considerations such as enrollment, admission, and degree awarding, and carry out a “chess game” layout within the school through institutional and mechanism innovation. On the basis of learning from the experience of Nanhe College, we will continue to promote the opening up of our school’s education to the outside world.
Dai Zhehua, director of the Overseas Study Training and Research Center of the Ministry of Education, pointed out that studying the article published by General Secretary Xi Jinping in the Kazakhstan media was very inspiring. Our school started its internationalization work early and has a solid foundation for running schools. In the future, we should further improve in terms of sustainability, volume, and depth. We should also actively expand the educational resources of countries along the “Belt and Road”, seek high-level partners, stimulate innovation sparks in exchanges, and promote the optimal allocation of educational resources on both sides. We should also actively think about how to make multiple arrangements in international cooperation in various disciplines, and promote the balanced development of liberal arts, science, engineering, and medicine on the basis of giving full play to our advantages.
Representatives from various offices talked about their feelings in light of their own work. Everyone agreed that, at the national service level, we should always plan internationalization work in the context of national development, improve political sensitivity, pay close attention to changes in the international situation and policy orientation, and strive for more policy support and resource allocation to ensure that internationalized education projects are smoothly promoted and achieve the expected results; at the cultural exchange level, we should continue to enhance cultural exchanges with countries along the Belt and Road, and while expanding the influence of my country’s higher education, inject new vitality into local social and economic development to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results; at the project execution level, we should achieve complementary advantages, combine preliminary research and feasibility analysis, and ensure practical results; in terms of project publicity, we should actively seek support from multiple parties inside and outside the school, at home and abroad, and further enhance the confidence of all sectors of society in the sustainable development of internationalized projects by telling good exchange stories.
Lu Yanqing made a concluding speech. He pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s signed article and important instructions are far-sighted and have drawn a new blueprint for the international development of universities. Faced with the opportunities and challenges brought about by the great changes that have not been seen in a century, we must help the country’s innovative talent training and the internationalization of higher education with a long-term strategic vision and solid action measures. First, we must accurately grasp the overall situation of international exchanges, empower talent training, actively build a diversified international exchange platform, broaden the international vision of teachers and students, deeply understand the characteristics of the times, grasp the development trend of science and technology, and transform the results of international exchanges and cooperation into a driving force for talent training, so as to cultivate high-quality innovative talents with international competitiveness for the country. Second, we should deeply understand the needs of school construction, create a golden signboard for international education, closely focus on the school’s development positioning and strategic goals, accurately grasp the international needs of discipline construction, and enhance international influence and competitiveness by introducing international high-quality educational resources and strengthening cooperation with internationally renowned universities and research institutions, so as to create a discipline brand with distinctive international characteristics; Third, we should plan innovative culture and explore efficient paths. In the process of promoting internationalization, we should encourage teachers and students to be brave in exploration and innovation, form a good atmosphere of openness, tolerance and pursuit of excellence, learn to “use ingenuity to do big things”, find and practice international paths and methods suitable for their own development; Fourth, we should solidly promote the “Strive for Action” to ensure that the project is implemented and effective, continuously strengthen top-level design, make good use of existing discipline advantages and cooperation foundations, strengthen the “internal driving force” of scientific research and teaching cooperation, and improve the international talent training system, resource optimization allocation, faculty team building, management and service levels. Under the guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, through the unremitting efforts of the entire school, we will focus our efforts to ensure that the internationalization of education projects achieve practical results. We must strive to promote the construction of the “first Nanjing University” and contribute to the accelerated construction of international innovation platforms and talent bases in my country.
