Nanjing University Holds Commendation Meeting in Honor of CPC’s 103rd Anniversary

On July 1, Nanjing University held a commendation meeting to celebrate the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China at the Xianlin Campus, warmly celebrating the birthday of the Party, awarding the “50 Years of Glory in the Party” commemorative medal, and commending outstanding Communist Party members, outstanding party workers and advanced grassroots party organizations of Nanjing University in 2024. Nanjing University Party Committee Secretary and Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Tan Tianniu, Nanjing University President and Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Tan Zhemin, Ministry of Education Party Building Liaison Officer and former Vice President of Southeast University Lin Pinghua attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Yang Zhong, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Nanjing University Party Committee.

The atmosphere in the venue was solemn and dignified. The emblem of the Communist Party of China hung in the center of the curtain of the rostrum shone brightly, and 10 bright red flags were placed on both sides. At 8:30 a.m., the conference officially began. Everyone stood up and sang the national anthem.

On behalf of the school party committee, Tan Tianniu extended warm congratulations to the groups and individuals who were commended, paid high tribute to the old comrades who have made important contributions to the development of the school, and expressed heartfelt thanks and sincere greetings to all the party members of the school who have worked diligently, pioneered and made selfless contributions in their respective positions. He said that the groups and individuals who were commended today are the outstanding representatives and advanced models that have emerged on all fronts of our school in recent years. He hoped that everyone would take the commended groups and individuals as examples, always strictly demand themselves with the standards of Communist Party members, learn from the good and strive to be excellent, serve the country and the people, add luster to the party flag, and fulfill their duties for the school.

“History has fully proved that without the Communist Party of China, there would be no new China, and there would be no great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.” Tan Tianniu reviewed the glorious history of the Communist Party of China and the glorious revolutionary tradition of Nanjing University in his speech. He pointed out that Nanjing University has always been breathing with the times and sharing the fate with the nation, seeking the prosperity of the country and the progress of science and education. In various historical periods of the development of the party and the country, it has made due contributions to national independence, national prosperity, social progress, and people’s happiness. In recent years, under the strong leadership of the school party committee, party organizations at all levels and all party members in the school have kept in mind the instructions, been grateful and forged ahead, anchored the basic direction of accelerating the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics with “Nanjing University-style forging ahead”, united and struggled, strived to be the first, acted on words, and acted in response to the trend, promoting the school’s various undertakings to present a good trend of continuous upward leaps, and are moving solidly towards the goal of accelerating the construction of the “first Nanjing University” that will reassure the party, satisfy the people, and make all Nanjing University students proud.

Tan Tianniu put forward four requirements for comprehensively strengthening the Party’s leadership and promoting the Party’s construction in schools: First, we must further focus our minds and souls in promoting high-quality Party construction; second, we must further gather talents and strength in promoting high-quality Party construction; third, we must further consolidate the foundation in promoting high-quality Party construction; and fourth, we must further rectify the style and discipline in promoting high-quality Party construction. Tan Tianniu emphasized that the century-long journey is magnificent, and the original intention of the century has become stronger over time. We should learn from history and create the future, work hard and move forward courageously. We must unite more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, vigorously promote the great spirit of Party building, always bear in mind the earnest instructions of the General Secretary, fully implement the spirit of the General Secretary’s important reply, and go further and further. We should lead the construction of a world-class Nanjing University with Chinese characteristics with high-quality Party construction, and use the outstanding achievements of managing the Party and running schools to comprehensively promote the construction of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation with Chinese-style modernization. Submit a qualified answer sheet to General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Party Central Committee.

At the meeting, Tan Tianniu presented commemorative medals to the party members of our school who had “50 years of glory in the party”. Tan Zhemin presented awards to “Outstanding Communist Party Members of Nanjing University”.

Yang Zhong read out the commendation decision. In order to fully demonstrate the style of the majority of party members and party organizations at all levels in the school, and to encourage all party members in the school to forge ahead and strive for excellence, the school party committee decided to award the title of “Outstanding Communist Party Member of Nanjing University” to 25 comrades including Wang Zesen, the title of “Outstanding Party Worker of Nanjing University” to 25 comrades including Ding Zhi, and the title of “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Nanjing University” to 35 grassroots party organizations including the Party Branch of Chinese History Faculty and Staff of the School of History.

Liu Miao, deputy secretary of the school party committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, and Chen Yunsong, deputy secretary of the school party committee and director of the school office, respectively presented awards to “Outstanding Party Worker of Nanjing University” and “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Nanjing University”.

Liu Xiangping, a representative of “Outstanding Communist Party Members of Nanjing University” and professor of the School of History, reviewed his work experience at Nanjing University. He said that as a member of Nanjing University, he should consciously shoulder the responsibility of representing Nanjing University, produce more outstanding results, and better showcase the style of Nanjing University; in the future, he should continue to actively participate in the “Forging Ahead Action” and make greater contributions to the future of Nanjing University and Chinese-style modernization.

Xu Ting, a representative of “Nanjing University Advanced Grassroots Party Organization” and the second party branch of the School of Modern Engineering and Applied Sciences, shared the overall ideas and advanced experience of party branch construction. He said that we should continue to focus on the requirements of comprehensive and strict party governance, consolidate the foundation of party branch construction, deeply integrate party building with education, science and technology, and talents, and promote them as a whole, adhere to the combination of party branch construction and serving the country, and strive to build a teacher party branch with Nanjing University characteristics and engineering characteristics.

Liu Chengjie, a representative of “Outstanding Communist Party Members of Nanjing University” and a 2023 direct doctoral student of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, said that as members of Nanjing University, we should have unremitting perseverance, passion for excellence and the ability to continuously innovate. We should further carry forward the spirit of the older generation of scientists, strengthen our belief in independent innovation, and contribute our youthful strength to promoting our country’s self-reliance in science and technology.

At the meeting, led by Tan Tianniu, all participating party members faced the flag of the Communist Party of China and reviewed their party oath.

The conference ended successfully with the majestic sound of “The Internationale”. Members of the school’s party and government leadership team, members of the school’s party committee, members of the school’s disciplinary committee, secretaries, deputy secretaries, full-time organizers, party branch secretaries, party member representatives of each department-level party organization, responsible comrades of various democratic parties, and representatives of non-party people attended the conference.
