Nanjing University Hosts 2024 National Conditions Training for Teachers
On July 3, the 2024 Nanjing University Teacher Special Training Course “Carrying Forward the Spirit of Educators and Striving to Become Great Teachers in the New Era” was launched. The departure ceremony for the national conditions training was held in the Shitao Lecture Hall and Tao Garden of the Institute of Education of Nanjing University. Wang Zhenlin, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of the University, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Miao Feng, Deputy Director of the Teacher Work Department of the Party Committee (in charge of work) and Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department (in charge of work), presided over the ceremony. Teacher representatives from all colleges, departments, teaching and research units of the whole university participated in this training course.
Wang Zhenlin pointed out that organizing national conditions training is a key task to thoroughly implement the major decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee on strengthening and improving the ideological and political work of colleges and universities and the construction of the teaching staff. It is an important way to help teachers improve their political literacy and take the initiative to shoulder the mission of serving the country through science and education. It is also an important platform for promoting teachers to enhance mutual communication and strengthen experience exchange. On the eve of Teachers’ Day last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the unique spirit of educators in China and profoundly elaborated on the rich connotation and practical requirements of the spirit of educators. All teachers of Nanjing University should take educators and great teachers such as Tao Xingzhi as examples, focus on “teaching and doing in unity”, think about how to educate students well, get close to students, and infect students, and achieve unity of knowledge and action in educating students and self-improvement.
Wang Zhenlin put forward three expectations for the trainees: First, to cultivate patriotic feelings, strengthen ideals and beliefs, have a deep understanding of the party’s, national, social and people’s conditions, have a deep patriotic heart, sharpen the ambition to serve the country, and practice serving the country; second, to continue the cultural bloodline, adhere to the principle of maintaining the integrity and making innovations, focus on absorbing nutrients from the excellent traditional Chinese culture, strengthen cultural confidence, enhance cultural awareness, and achieve organic connection in daily teaching and scientific research; third, to draw spiritual strength, set a good example as a teacher, internalize the spirit of educators into teaching and educating ability, teaching methods, bear in mind the original mission of educating people for the party and cultivating talents for the country, and establish the ambition and aspiration of “working hard in the teaching field and making the country strong”.
At the departure ceremony, Wang Zhenlin presented the school history general reading book “Reading NCU” to the trainees on behalf of the school. The trainees paid tribute to the statue of Mr. Tao Xingzhi in Tao Garden and watched the documentary “A Century-old Master – Tao Xingzhi” to deeply learn and understand Mr. Tao Xingzhi’s educational thoughts.
Afterwards, all the trainees went to the China Teachers Museum, the teacher ethics construction base of the Ministry of Education, for special training. This training combined theoretical learning and practical teaching, and adopted a variety of forms such as special reports, on-site teaching, and exchanges and discussions to guide the trainees to immerse themselves in the excellent traditional Chinese culture, trace the source of the teacher’s way, absorb the essence of the teacher’s way, understand the heart of following the teacher, and cultivate noble teacher ethics.
At the Confucius Cultural Square of Qufu Normal University, the training class held an “Teacher’s Ceremony and Virtue-Nourishing” oath-taking ceremony. All the students paid homage to the great teacher in front of the statue of Confucius and recited the People’s Teacher’s Oath together to further enhance their sense of professional honor, historical mission and social responsibility as teachers.
Yang Zhaoming, a distinguished professor at the Shandong University Institute of Confucian Studies, gave a keynote lecture entitled “The Fundamental Task of Moral Education and Cultural Power Construction” to all students. Starting from the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on cultural inheritance and development, he led everyone to appreciate the profoundness and ideological essence of China’s excellent traditional culture with examples, deeply analyzed the academic logic of the combination of Marxism and China’s excellent traditional culture, explained the rich connotation and contemporary significance of Confucius’ thoughts and Confucian culture, and inspired the students to better implement the fundamental task of moral education and inherit and develop China’s excellent traditional culture. The students had an in-depth exchange with Yang Zhaoming on the inheritance and development of culture.
The training class also conducted on-site teaching activities at the China Teachers’ Museum. The trainees immersed themselves in studying the exhibitions of “The History of Teachers”, “The Cradle of Teachers” and “Model of Teachers”, felt the inheritance of teachers, admired the role models of teachers, sublimated the realm of learning from teachers, and further understood the inheritance and development of the spirit of educators from the root of China’s excellent teacher tradition to the new era.
At the exchange seminar, all the trainees discussed the growth and development of young teachers, and put forward valuable opinions and suggestions on the work of teachers and personnel in schools. The on-site exchanges were in-depth and the atmosphere was warm. The trainees of the training class said that they had gained a lot from this national conditions training activity. In the future work, they will continue to carry forward traditional culture, inherit excellent teachers, strengthen their own cultivation, and constantly enhance their sense of responsibility and mission to serve the country through science and education. They will take educators as examples and take practical actions to participate in the vivid practice of building a strong country through education.
This national conditions study activity is one of the series of activities held by Nanjing University to welcome the 40th Teachers’ Day. It aims to vigorously promote the spirit of educators, strengthen the understanding of all teachers, especially young teachers, about the party’s national conditions, social conditions and people’s conditions, improve teachers’ ideological and political qualities and their ability to educate morality and educate people, and guide teachers to achieve the transformation from understanding and internalizing to practicing the spirit of educators, and shoulder the lofty mission entrusted to the people’s teachers by the Party and the country in the new era.
