Nanjing University Hosts Delegation from Jinan University for United Front Work Investigation

On July 24, Shang Hua, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jinan University, and his delegation came to Xianlin Campus to investigate the work of the United Front of our university. Jiao Ruihua, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Director of the Organization Department and Director of the United Front Department, attended the research symposium and delivered a speech. Luo Ping, Executive Deputy Director of the United Front Department of the Party Committee of the University, presided over the meeting.

On behalf of the university, Jiao Ruihua welcomed the research team and introduced the characteristics of our university and the key work of the united front. Jiao Ruihua said that Nanjing University has a long history and profound cultural heritage, and has made important contributions to the prosperity of the country and the rejuvenation of the nation. At present, the whole university is deeply implementing the “Forging Ahead Action” to comprehensively promote the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. The school party committee attaches great importance to the united front work, adheres to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, implements General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on doing a good job in the party’s united front work in the new era and the spirit of the important reply to the young scholars who returned from studying abroad in our school, continues the glorious tradition, gives play to the unique advantages, and strives to build a large united front work pattern, unites and leads non-party intellectuals to focus on the center and serve the overall situation, and actively participates in the key areas of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, building a modern civilization for the Chinese nation, tackling “stuck neck” technical problems, and serving economic and social development, so as to draw concentric circles and gather positive energy for the great cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation. She believes that the united front work of Jinan University has distinctive characteristics and remarkable results. She hopes that this investigation and exchange will be an opportunity for both sides to study and understand the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, strengthen exchanges, deepen cooperation, and contribute wisdom and strength to promote the high-quality development of the united front work of universities.

Shang Hua expressed her gratitude to our school for supporting the research. She said that the Party Committee of Jinan University implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on doing a good job in the party’s united front work in the new era, and widely gathered the strength of non-party intellectuals. The purpose of this research is to learn from and exchange good experiences and practices of brother universities in united front work, further improve the scientific, standardized and institutionalized level of the school’s united front work, and better play the important role of the united front. It is hoped that both parties will take this research as an opportunity to jointly focus on the mission and tasks of the united front work of colleges and universities, deepen exchanges and co-construction in various fields such as democratic parties and united front groups, explore and expand pragmatic cooperation, and help the high-quality development of the school’s educational cause.

At the meeting, Xu Qingguo, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Jinan University, Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee, and Director of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and the Religious Affairs Office, introduced the main characteristics and experience of the school’s united front work, and put forward hot and key issues currently facing the united front work of colleges and universities. In particular, he expressed his expectations for exchanges and cooperation in key areas such as the joint construction of grassroots organizations of democratic parties, ideological and political guidance of non-party intellectuals, and ethnic and religious work.

Li Yuehua, deputy director of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee of our school, introduced the overall situation and characteristic work of the school’s united front from the aspects of ideological and political guidance, building a team of representative figures, adhering to the principle of keeping true to the original aspiration and making innovations, and strengthening the centralized and unified leadership of the Party. In combination with the research theme, he introduced the school’s useful experience and innovative practices in related fields.

Everyone had a heated discussion on how to strengthen the construction of grassroots organizations of democratic parties, improve their ability to participate in politics and deepen ideological and political guidance, and reached a preliminary intention to deepen future cooperation.

Before the meeting, Shang Hua and his delegation also visited the University History Museum to learn about the development history and brilliant achievements of NCU over the past 120 years.
