Nanjing University Hosts Professor Sima De and Delegation from the Alliance of Pacific Rim Universities
On April 24, Professor Thomas Schneider, Secretary-General of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), and his delegation visited Nanjing University. Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with guests at the Xianlin Campus. The two sides held discussions and exchanges on further deepening cooperation and jointly addressing major global issues. Vice President Lu Yanqing presided over the symposium.
On behalf of Nanjing University, Tan Zhemin welcomed Professor Sima De and his delegation and thanked APRU for its long-term support and help to Nanjing University. He reviewed the cooperation history and mutually beneficial results between Nanjing University and APRU, and briefly introduced the development profile and educational achievements of Nanjing University. He pointed out that in recent years, Nanjing University has actively carried out international exchanges and cooperation on global issues such as life and health, climate change, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development, and has continuously contributed wisdom to solve common challenges facing mankind. He hopes to continue to deepen substantive cooperation with APRU in the future and make more contributions in talent training, scientific research and other aspects.
Simard thanked Nanjing University for its warm reception and support for APRU. He pointed out that Nanjing University has a long history, outstanding reputation, and internationally renowned achievements in international education, and is an important member of APRU. He introduced his work and development plans since taking up the post of Secretary-General of APRU, and analyzed the difficulties that APRU and the university may face in the future. He looked forward to better cooperation between the two parties to help APRU better benefit member schools. He welcomed NTU to participate in this year’s Alliance Presidents’ Annual Meeting and looked forward to more cooperation with NTU in areas such as artificial intelligence and higher education development.
The two parties chatted about the prospects of cooperation and discussed how APRU, as an international university organization, can help the development of member universities and work together to provide solutions to common problems faced by mankind.
Joey Chu, senior director of the Alliance of Pacific Rim Universities, and heads and representatives of Nanjing University’s International Affairs Office, Nanhe College, School of Architecture and Urban Planning and other units attended the meeting.
