Nanjing University Hosts Specimen Donation Ceremony for Earth Sciences Alumnus Professor Lv Hongbo and Report Meeting on ‘Donating Treasures to the Alma Mater’
On the morning of May 27, the specimen donation ceremony and the report meeting of Professor Lv Hongbo, professor of the School of Earth Sciences and Technology of China University of Petroleum (East China) and alumnus of the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering in 1978, were held in Zhugongshan Building of Xianlin Campus. Donor Lv Hongbo and Lu Xiancai, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice President and Dean of the School of Earth Sciences of Nanjing University, attended the event.
Xia Min, vice president of the School of Earth Sciences, hosted the event and introduced Professor Lv Hongbo’s personal experience and academic achievements.
Dong Ting, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Earth Sciences, presented a letter of appreciation to Lv Hongbo, thanking him for donating precious specimens to his alma mater.
Lv Hongbo shared his life experience and the original intention of the donation, fondly recalled his time studying at Nanjing University, and expressed his gratitude for the cultivation and support of his alma mater. In the report “Giving Treasures to the Alma Mater to Seek Truth and Inheritance”, he described in detail the difficulties and difficulties encountered by geoscientists in field work, but geoscientists are not afraid of difficulties and obstacles, bravely climb to the top, break through themselves again and again, and harvest different scenery. He said, “We should be proud of our alma mater: recall the landscape of Jinling frequently, and pass on the teachings of our teachers; win glory for our alma mater: be consistent in words and deeds, be more disciplined, and practice down-to-earth!” He won applause from the audience.
In his speech, Lu Xiancai fondly recalled the care and dedication that Lv Hongbo had shown to each student during his time as a student. He said that Professor Lv Hongbo’s donation to his alma mater was a gesture of concern for the development of his alma mater and the learning and growth of his students, and was of great significance; it reflected Professor Lv’s consistent scientific spirit and deep love for earth science. This donation coincided with the 122nd anniversary of the founding of Nanjing University and was the best gift to his alma mater. He sincerely thanked Professor Lv for his donation and his attention and support for the development of his alma mater.
