He said that this year coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. As Gu Hongming, a famous translator in the late Qing Dynasty, said, “Chinese and French cultures are the only most similar pair in the world.” The two countries have a long history of exchanges and ever-lasting friendship. Both schools are also at the forefront of the two countries in the fields of humanities and social sciences and have strong strengths. He pointed out that Nanjing University will actively participate in exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations and take the series of events establishing diplomatic relations between China and France as an opportunity to promote academic cooperation between the two universities as well as cultural exchanges and people-to-people bonds between the two countries. He also said that he was very willing to support the two schools in further implementing the consensus reached by Secretary Tan during his visit to deepen academic exchanges and joint student training in French comparative literature and other disciplines. He also hoped that Vice President Lavoca would continue to care and support the cooperation between the two parties.

Lavoca expressed his gratitude to our school for the warm meeting. She introduced the basic situation of Paris III University and said that the school is one of the most international universities in France and an academic center in the field of humanities and social sciences. She pointed out that Paris III University attaches great importance to its partnership with Nanjing University, and highlighted the hope of exploring the possibility of cooperation between the two universities in joint training of graduate students and jointly holding academic conferences.
