Nanjing University Leaders Share School-Running Experience at “National Excellence Program” Work Exchange Meeting
On July 29, the National Excellent Primary and Secondary School Teacher Training Program Work Exchange Meeting was held at Tianjin University. Wang Jiayi, member of the Party Leadership Group, Vice Minister, and Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Education, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Wang Zhenlin, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice President, and Dean of the Graduate School of Nanjing University, attended the meeting and introduced his experience in running schools as a representative of the first batch of pilot universities.
Wang Jiayi emphasized that the implementation of the “National Excellence Plan” is of great significance to promoting the integrated development of education and science and technology talents, improving the teacher education system with Chinese characteristics, and promoting high-level education opening. It is necessary to summarize and promote the experience of the “National Excellence Plan” and pay attention to top-level design and promote model reform, integrate resources and strengthen pilot guarantees, focus on teacher construction and gather high-level teams, focus on coordination and linkage, and establish a cooperative training mechanism. We must adhere to problem orientation, innovate and improve the training model, and strive to improve the quality of teacher training in the “National Excellence Plan”.
Wang Zhenlin reported on the development and implementation of Nanjing University’s “National Excellence Plan” with the theme of “Striving to be the vanguard of cultivating excellent teachers for a strong country in science and education”. He pointed out that Nanjing University actively responded to the policy deployment of the “National Excellence Plan”, explored new models of education and training for non-normal graduate teachers, and was committed to cultivating outstanding middle school teachers. Wang Zhenlin introduced that Nanjing University aims to cultivate high-quality middle school teachers with teaching practice and research capabilities, adopts an interdisciplinary and cross-organizational cooperative operation model – establishes a “three-tutor system” to improve the effectiveness of collaborative education; sets up a training system that integrates “three types of courses” exploration and “general and specialized”; actively uses “college-high school collaboration” to cross the “gap” between theory and practice; uses “teaching competitions” to stimulate students’ internal motivation to focus on practice, and establishes a “teacher training special plan” to provide education-related courses and internship opportunities for non-normal students of all majors in Nanjing University who are interested in teaching, so as to pre-select and cultivate high-quality students for the “National Excellence Plan”.
At the meeting, leaders from Tianjin University, Northeast Normal University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tianjin Nankai Middle School, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Gansu Provincial Department of Education and other 8 units made speeches. Representatives from the Teacher Affairs Department of the Ministry of Education, two batches of pilot universities, representatives of the “National Excellent Program” education practice schools and leaders of relevant provincial education administrative departments held discussions and exchanges. The person in charge of the Education Research Institute of Nanjing University and Tao Xingzhi Teacher Education College participated in the exchange and discussion activities of the allied universities of the National Excellent Program.
It is reported that Nanjing University, as one of the first 30 pilot universities for the “National Excellence Program”, is led by Tao Xingzhi Teacher Education College and jointly with the four colleges of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology to cultivate cross-disciplinary talents in science and engineering education, and select outstanding students through recommendation and secondary selection to become the first batch of “National Excellence Program” postgraduates. In December 2023, our school signed a contract with 26 high-quality high schools in Jiangsu Province as joint training bases for Nanjing University’s “National Excellence Program”.
