Nanjing University Professor Sun Xiaoyun Appointed as Librarian at Central Academy of Culture and History
According to CCTV News, on June 26, Li Qiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, issued appointment letters to the newly appointed State Council Counselors and members of the Central Academy of Culture and History. Sun Xiaoyun, Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Association and Dean of the Chinese Calligraphy Research Institute of Nanjing University, was appointed as a member of the Central Academy of Culture and History.
Sun Xiaoyun is a famous calligrapher. He is a member of the Central Academy of Literature and History, the 8th Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, the Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Chairman of the Jiangsu Calligraphers Association, the Member of the 11th National Committee of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Director of the Art Committee of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, and the Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Workers Calligraphers Association. He is the Dean of the Chinese Calligraphy Research Institute of Nanjing University, and a doctoral supervisor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Nanjing University. His works have been exhibited in many countries and regions around the world. His book “Calligraphy Has Rules” has been published by six publishing houses at home and abroad. It has been a bestseller for 17 years and has been reprinted 26 times, setting the highest sales record for calligraphy theory books in the country. In May 2022, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Nanjing University, Sun Xiaoyun wrote a huge 36-character couplet for Nanjing University. In 2024, he presided over the opening of the “Great Beauty of Chinese Characters” humanities calligraphy general education course, which is the first of its kind in universities across the country, at Nanjing University.
