Nanjing University’s School of Business Hosts Special Ideological and Political Course
In order to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on the construction of ideological and political courses in schools, implement the “Soul-building Project for New People of the Times”, and implement on-site practical teaching for basic training of party members, on the afternoon of July 2, the “National Model Branch for Party Building Work” cultivation and creation unit – the Economics Department Teachers’ Party Branch of the School of Business of Nanjing University, in conjunction with the Yuhuatai Martyrs Memorial Hall, successfully carried out a special ideological and political course on “Great Teachers” dialogues with “College Students”. This event is also one of the Yuhuatai-College Ideological and Political “Golden Course” series of courses.
Hong Yinxing, a senior professor of humanities and social sciences at Nanjing University and former party secretary, attended the event and gave a special ideological and political course. Ge Junjie, deputy director and party group member of the Yuhuatai Martyrs Cemetery Administration, Fan Conglai, director of the Yangtze River Delta Economic and Social Development Research Center, Jiang Chenghong, alumnus of Nanjing University Business School and chairman of Far East Electric, Ge Yang, former vice dean of the School of Economics, and Wang Yuwei, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Business, attended the event. More than 100 members of the Party Branch of the Faculty of Economics, the First Party Branch of Undergraduates, the Second Party Branch, the 2022 Master of Economics Party Branch, and the Doctor of Economics Party Branch attended the event. Jiang Jing, secretary of the Party Branch of the Faculty of Economics and vice dean of the Yangtze River Institute of Industrial Economics of Nanjing University, hosted the event.
Yuhuatai Martyrs Cemetery is a national patriotism education demonstration base. In the spiritual spectrum of the Chinese Communists, the spirit of Yuhua heroes occupies a unique and important position. Under the vivid explanation of the tour guide of Yuhuatai Martyrs Memorial Hall, the participating teachers and students visited the Power of Faith-Yuhua Martyrs’ Life and Deeds Exhibition, fully realized the deeds and spirit of Yuhua heroes with the connotation of “lofty ideals and beliefs, noble moral sentiments, and fearless spirit of sacrificing for the people”, and felt the original intention and mission of the Chinese Communists in the immersion of red culture, building a solid foundation of faith and replenishing spiritual calcium.
The participants collectively watched the CCTV documentary “A Book to the Future” to learn about the glorious deeds of martyrs Gu Heng and Cheng Yibin. Afterwards, Hong Yinxing, a senior professor of humanities and social sciences and former party secretary of Nanjing University, gave a special ideological and political course on the theme of “Problem-oriented Research on Chinese Modernization”. He said that it is necessary to further carry out economic research around finding Chinese problems, telling Chinese stories well, and exploring Chinese laws. Focusing on the five characteristics of Chinese modernization, he explained several issues in studying and promoting Chinese modernization and high-quality development, and pointed out that academic research should be carried out in a problem-oriented manner, studying real problems, and promoting Chinese modernization by improving innovative research and development capabilities and effective income, so as to achieve common prosperity for all people. He emphasized that as the main force in promoting Chinese modernization, the participating party members should inherit and carry forward the spirit of the Yuhua heroes, take up their responsibilities in the process of comprehensively promoting Chinese modernization, contribute their youthful strength to the glorious cause of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and show their responsibility.
Nanjing University alumnus Jiang Chenghong shared and exchanged ideas with the teachers and students present. He combined his personal growth experience with the growth of Far East Group and shared his ideas with four key words: “determination”, “diligent study”, “correction” and “choosing goodness”. He encouraged young students to always carry out self-exploration, deepen self-awareness, strengthen lifelong learning, have the courage to face setbacks, and promote exchanges and mutual learning. He said that young students should further refine their world outlook, outlook on life and values, and strengthen their understanding of the development trends of the world.
Afterwards, under the chairmanship of Luo Jie, secretary of the first party branch of undergraduate students of the School of Business, Hong Yinxing, Fan Conglai, and Jiang Chenghong held a discussion with representatives of undergraduate and graduate party members of the School of Business. They conducted on-site exchanges on how to establish and uphold beliefs, and organically combine personal strengths, professional knowledge, and national needs, and sent words to teachers and students on site. The guests at the meeting said that in the field of academic research, we must actively respond to the requirements of the development of new quality productivity, focus on analyzing the new changes and adjustments in productivity and production relations in the era of artificial intelligence, and accelerate the construction of Chinese economics; in the main battlefield of economic practice, we must carry forward the sentiment of serving the country, constantly improve our own capabilities, serve the country, serve the people, and be builders of Chinese-style modernization.
The event also held a ceremony to unveil the educational practice base of the Party School of the Party Committee of the School of Business of Nanjing University. This Yuhuatai Ideological and Political “Golden Course” activity is a powerful measure for the Party Branch of the Economics Department to strengthen the construction of a national model branch for party building work. It is also a typical practice and landmark achievement for the Party School of the School of Business to focus on major themes, based on professional characteristics, and carry out practical teaching for party members.
The School of Business has always focused on leading the growth of “college students” with “great teachers”, driving discipline construction with party building, empowering ideological and political education with red culture, and using multiple measures to gather the strength of teachers and students. Guided by the construction of national model branches for party building work, the School has joined hands with the Yuhuatai Martyrs Memorial Hall to promote innovative measures to organically integrate party building work and ideological and political education.
