Nasha-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

ALIGARH  : The students, teachers and staff at various schools and departments of Aligarh Muslim University attended the awareness programmes held under the Nasha-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to educate students against the drug abuse and trafficking and make them aware of the ill effects of using intoxicating materials, including smoking cigarette or consuming paan, gutka and other illicit drugs.

At the Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged, the students participated in an awareness programme themed as “Viksit Bharat ka Mantra, Bharat ho Nashe se Swatantra” and the Principal, Dr. Naila Rashid administered a pledge. She highlighted the importance of the day with special mention of detrimental effects of drug abuse on physical and mental health, and its impact on society. She also highlighted the role of education and awareness in preventing drug addiction, especially among the youth.

At the AMU City Girls’ High School, the students joined an online programme on “Drug Abuse” held under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

The participating students from various schools from all over India were urged to keep away from the intoxicating materials and remain vigilant of the anti-social elements in their areas, who lure young students to use illicit drugs.

Mr. Md. Javed Akhtar, Officiating Principal emphasized the importance of counseling sessions, Nukkad Natak, Quiz, essay writing events and rallies to promote awareness regarding Nasha-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The faculty members, staff and students at the Department of Urdu, took pledge against drug abuse under the leadership of the Chairman, Prof Quamrul Hooda Faridi, who stressed the need for making India a drug-abuse free society. He said that we should keep away from all forms of intoxication, whether physical or spiritual, as both make the body and mind weak.

Prof. Shehroz Alam Rizvi, Chairman, Department of Economics administered an oath to the students, faculty members and non-teaching staff at his department against drug abuse. He discussed the adverse effects of drugs and how it ruins the health and career prospects of an addict. He said that family members of a drug addict are among the worst sufferers and all efforts should be made to educate our youth to keep away from intoxicating materials.
