Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign in 15 districts including Bhopal
Bhopal : Minister for Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Shri Prem Singh Patel has informed that Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign has been launched in 15 districts including Bhopal from August 15 for a period of 6 months. Total 272 districts of the country including Bhopal, Chhindwara, Datia, Gwalior, Hoshangabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Mandsuar, Narsinghpur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Rewa, Sagar, Satna and Ujjain have been chosen for the campaign. Districts have been identified on the basis of national survey conducted in terms of substance and alcohol abuse.
Under the campaign, committees comprising senior officers of police, law, education, women and child development, social justice and other departments besides retired administrative officers have been constituted in districts under chairmanship of Collectors. With an aim to help people in getting rid of addiction, the topmost goal of the campaign is to save the younger generation from addiction.
The functions of the committees formed at district level include ensuring formulation and implementation of District Nasha Mukt Campaign, conducting awareness generation programmes for students, teachers and parents, forming student clubs in colleges, identification of victims and users and taking/referring them to rehabilitation centres/hospitals for counselling and treatment, monitoring of counseling and treatment facilities in districts, ensuring strict implementation of ban on sale of cigarettes within 100 meters of educational institutions, obtaining information on the availability/sale of drugs and review the action taken on such information, visit to the institutions, hospitals providing services, conducting training programmes for the service providers at district level and below district level, to increase community participation and public cooperation, having a social media strategy for the district campaign and implementation of the same, feedback on the progress to the state level campaign committee and to the Ministry etc. Committees will also give feedback to state level committee formed under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Social Justice.
As per the national survey, conducted by the Union Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment, about 16 crore people in India consume alcohol, 3.1 crore people use cannabis products and 2.26 crore people consume other drugs. Districts included in the campaign are 33 districts each of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, 18 districts of Punjab, 15 of Madhya Pradesh, 12 of Jharkhand, 11 areas of Delhi, 10 districts each of Odisha, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir, 9 each of Manipur and Assam, 8 each of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat, 6 each of Karnataka and Kerala, 4 each of Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Maharashtra and Mizoram, 3 each of Nagaland and Chhattisgarh besides Union Territories Daman & Diu & chandigarh.
