National Conference at CUO Explores 21st Century Mathematics: Theory and Applications
The Central University of Odisha wrapped up a stimulating two-day national conference on “Mathematics in the 21st Century: Theory and Applications” on April 27, 2024. Presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chakradhara Tripathi, the closing session saw the participation of renowned mathematicians including Prof. Mukuta Mani Tripathy from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; Prof. Avanish Kumar from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi; Prof. A. K. Mishra, Former Director of Institute of Mathematics & Applications, Bhubaneswar; Prof. Bhabani Sankar Panda from IIT Delhi; Prof. Prasanta Chatterjee from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University; Prof. G. S. Khadekar from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University; and Dr. Ashok Kumar Sahoo, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Mathematics at CUO, who also served as the Chairman of the Conference, along with number participants and research scholars.
Prof. Tripathi commended the Mathematics department for organizing a successful conference and extended his greetings to all dignitaries. He emphasized the importance of fostering innovation and research for societal benefit, expressing hope that the Mathematics department would one day lead Eastern India in advanced mathematical studies and research. He urged the department to publish three books highlighting the contributions of Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar to the field of Mathematics.
Reflecting on the conference, dignitaries shared insights and encouraged students to prioritize their studies and research, emphasizing their role in nation-building. Over 100 participants engaged in the conference, presenting a substantial number of papers, with Miss Manisha from IIT, Bhilai securing the prestigious Best Presentation Award. Dr. Jyotiska Datta, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Conference Convener, skillfully coordinated the program.
The event also featured a cultural program on the evening of April 26, 2024, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state and the nation. Organized by the students of the Mathematics department under the guidance of faculty members Ramesh Chandra Matti and Dr. Sarbeswar Barik, the performances captivated the audience, leaving a lasting impression.
