National Consumer Rights Day celebrated at Shopian
SHOPIAN: The National Consumer Rights Day was today celebrated by Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department Shopian with the theme ‘Digital Fair Finance’ at the Meeting Hall of Mini-Secretariat, here.
DDC Member Shopian, Raja Waheed was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Raja Waheed said that all of us should work with dedication and in a mission mode to keep the consumer aware about all the legal rights and remedies available to them.
Speakers highlighted various provisions of consumer Rights Act, which provides consumers with many rights including, right to be heard at an appropriate forum, right to seek redressal in case of unfair trade practices, right to consumer education and right to goods and services at competitive prices, among others.
Assistant Commissioner, Legal Metrology pinpointed the legal aspects involved in implementing the various provisions enshrined in the Act. He laid stress on the techno-legal aspects of consumer rights and advised the officials to work within the legal purview to implement measures for the effective monitoring of consumer rights.
Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety also highlighted the need to aware the masses about the consumer rights and remedies available to them for their grievance redressal.
The officers and officials of FCS&CA, Traders’ federation, Retailers association, civil society members and all other concerned were present on the occasion.
