National Interdisciplinary Online Student’s Conference on “Trauma, Memory and Post Memory”

 

Aligarh : The 26th of May, 2023, marked the first day of the three-day the Raleigh Literary Festival 1.0, the very first iteration of the flagship event of the Raleigh Literary Society, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University. The first day comprised of a National Interdisciplinary Students Conference on ‘Trauma, Memory, and Post-Memory’, a national academic conference open to undergraduate and postgraduate students across India. The event, which was held online via Google Meet in eight sessions, witnessed participation from over 40 different universities and institutions from all across the country as well as an audience count of over a hundred. True to its name, the conference had papers focusing on a wide variety of disciplines, including literature, politics, history, psychology, as well as gender studies.

The conference started with an inaugural session at 2:00 PM, consisting of an address by the President of the Society and the Chairperson, Dept. of English, Prof. Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, followed by the commencement of the conference sessions.

As a national conference aiming at promoting interdisciplinarity, the event achieved its goal in full by bringing together researchers from different fields of study who talked about subjects from an even wider range of disciplines, resulting in a rich array of papers presenting diverse perspectives.

The conference closed with an address by the keynote speaker from Chandidas Mahavidyalaya affiliated with the University of Burdwan, Prof Abhinanda Chakraborty, who shared her invaluable insight about memory studies, trauma, and why discussions about them hold undisputed importance.
