National Pharmacovigilance Week-related programme concludes

ALIGARH : The  National Pharmacovigilance Week-related programmes organized by the ADR Monitoring Centre (AMC), JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University during September 17-23, 2024 concluded here with a valedictory programme held at the Department of Pharmacology. The observational programmes were held in accordance with the guidelines of the PvPI, IPC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The chief guest, Prof. Asad Ullah Khan, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, AMU, emphasized the need to encourage healthcare professionals to report adverse drug reactions for a better understanding of medication risks and to safeguard people from the ill effects of medicines.

Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, Prof Syed Ziaur Rahman, Coordinator, AMC-PvPI and Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, provided an overview of activities, which were based on the theme, “Building ADR Reporting Culture for Patient Safety.”

He thanked Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS, JNMC, who extended full support and cooperation to the celebratory programmes and inaugurated the celebrations by flagging off a Walkathon at hospital grounds on September 17.

He said that throughout the week, awareness and sensitization programmes were held, including lectures, awareness events, quiz, poster-making competition and CME.

The Deputy Coordinator, Dr. Imrana Masood, Department of TB, Chest and Pulmonary Medicine delivered a lecture, while an awareness programme was organized at the OPDs of JNMCH and Dental College, where patients were provided vital information about medication safety.

An awareness programme was held at the OPD of AK Tibbiya College Hospital, under the supervision of the College Principal, Prof. Badrudduja Khan and Coordinator of PPvC, ASU Drugs Prof. Tanzeel Ahmad. Later, the postgraduate students of the Department of Pharmacology participated in a quiz competition on the theme.

AMC Coordinator Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman delivered a lecture at the Paramedical College, which was presided over by the Principal, Prof. Qazi Ehsan Ali. A poster-making competition was also held for the undergraduate students.

Later on, a CME on pharmacovigilance was held at the Ibn Sina Academy, Aligarh, in collaboration with Aligarh IMA, where presentations were made by Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman and Dr. Ruhi Khan from the Department of Medicine. The Aligarh IMA President, Prof. Rajeev Kumar Varshney and Secretary Dr. Anurag Gupta, along with other members attended the CME which was presided over by the pharmacovigilance expert Prof. K. C. Singhal and former IMA UP State President Dr. Vijay Pal.

Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal, ZA Dental College, Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Prof. Qazi Ehsan Ali, Principal, Paramedical College and Prof. Farah Azmi, Principal, College of Nursing were the guests of honour.

Prof. Mohammad Shameem (Department of TBRD), Prof. Kamran Afzal (Department of Paediatrics), Prof. Pradhuman Verma (Department of Oral Medicine and Dental Radiology), Dr. Mohd. Yaman (JR, Department of TBRD) were felicitated for their help and support to the programme, while Dr. Pratik Vijay (JR, Department of Pharmacology) and Dr. Sidra Aslam (Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology) received awards for reporting the highest number of ADRs. The winners of the quiz and poster-making competitions were also felicitated on the occasion.

Dr. Anju Joshua conducted the valedictory function and Dr. Swathi G extended a vote of thanks.
