National Science Day Celebrated at Jamia Hamdard

New Delhi: National Science Day was held in Jamia Hamdard on March 1, 2021 wherein the Science Day lecture was delivered by Dr. Shahid Jameel, an internationally acclaimed virologist and Director, Trivedi School of Biosciences at Ashoka University, Sonipat on the topic, “The Science of Vaccines”.
The topic has great relevance in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Jameel while delivering his lecture on theme of the National Science Day 2021 spoke on various vaccines against the COVID-19 and their mechanism of action. He focussed on the value of vaccines and how vaccines elicit immune responses. He provided up to date information on the vaccine development. He highlighted the fact it will take up to nine months to get herd – immunity level of protection against COVID-19 in Indian population at the current rate of vaccination. He expressed hope that science will win over this pandemic.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Mustahsan Ali Jafri presided over the function and urge the faculty and research scholars to undertake research frontiers of science and healthcare. Professor S. Raisuddin, Advisor (Research) delivered the Welcome Address and presented Research Highlights of Jamia Hamdard during the last year and status of rankings of Jamia Hamdard.
Jamia Hamdard nurtures an effective research environment since its inception. The faculty members are excelling in teaching and research. Teachers and research scholars of Jamia Hamdard were felicitated for high impact and highly cited publications in scientific journals under scheme of ‘Incentive for Quality Publications’.
Jamia Hamdard faculty members and research scholars who received awards and recognitions at national and international levels in the field science and medicine during the last one year were also felicitated during the event. To name the recognitions: from School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research – Professor Javed Ali for listing in top 2% Scientists of the World in Pharmacy; Dr. Sarwar Beg for AMS/DBT Newton International Fellowship; Dr. Jamshed Haneef for Royal Society of Chemistry Research Fund Grant Award; Dr. Mohammad Shahar Yar for Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Award Visvesvaraya of AICTE; Ms. Lubna Abdin for DST-AWSAR Award; and Ms. Rao Nargis Jahan for WARI Award of DST-IUSSTF. From School of Engineering Sciences and Technology; Professor Ranjit Biswas for listing in top 2% Scientist of the World in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing. From School of Unani Medical Education and Research- Professor Mohammad Aslam for Hakeem Allama Kabiruddin International Award. From School of Life Sciences and Research; Professor S. Raisuddin for listing in top 2% Scientists of the World in field of Toxicology; Professor Suhel Parvez for recognition as Fellow of Royal Society of Biology and Dr. Nidhi for Dr. Vinod Kumar Bhargava Award of NAMS, 2020.
Prof. M.A. Jafri, Vice-Chancellor Jamia Hamdard and Professor at School of Unani Medicine Education and Research (SUMER) was also felicitated for Hakim Ajmal Khan Award conferred on him by ISM Doctor’s Cell, Delhi. On the occasion, five books were also released by the guests published by international repute publishing house.
It should be noted that National Science Day is celebrated every year to recalls the notable invention “Raman Effect” by India’s greatest scientist C V Raman. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for this discovery. Since that day, February 28 is being commemorated as National Science Day to recall the great discovery of CV Raman.
