National Sports Day: Aiman, Charu, Nivedita emerge winners

 

Aligarh : Student shuttler, Aiman Khan clinched an easy victory as she breezed out Tasneem 21-06, 21-08 to win the above-17 age category final of the Badminton tournament, held to observe the nation-wide ‘National Sports Day’ at the Women’s College of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Shreya Sharma claimed the third place with a comfortable 21-06, 21-10 victory over Kanchan Sharma.

In the under-17 category, Charu Rajput won the title by defeating Bhoomi Singh 21-16, 21-15; while Fatima Zehra overcame Alfisha Rahat to finish at the third spot with a 21-16, 21-13 victory.

Meanwhile in the Table Tennis tournament, Nivedita Sharma (DSOM, Academy) won a thrilling final 14-12, 11-8, 12-10 that could have gone either way till the last point against Kartika Yadav (Department of Computer Science, AMU).

Yashasha Sharma (Our Lady of Fatima) was declared winner of the third place final in the Table Tennis event after her opponent Nikita Saraswat walked over.

The Badminton and Table Tennis competitions for female students were part of the ‘National Sports Day’ celebrations of the Physical Education Section, Women’s College, AMU to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, said Prof Naima Gulrez (Principal, Women’s College).

The sports events were being held in line with the Government rules and regulations to curb the pandemic.
