National symposium held on ‘Updates in Jarahat’

 

ALIGARH  : The Department of Jarahat, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a National Symposium in hybrid mode on “Updates in Ilmul Jarahat (Surgery)”.

A large number of faculty members, doctors, experts and PG scholars from all over the country participated in the symposium. More than 70 participants attended the programme offline, while 38 joined online, including those from the Ministry of Health and Universities of Iran who are pursuing studies in the field of Unani and Prophetic Medicine under a memorandum of understanding.

In his inaugural address, the chief guest, Prof. Syed Maudood Ashraf, Former Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, AMU, said that scientists in Unani medicine have made significant contributions in this field over several centuries and their achievements have added to the advancement of Unani medicine in different parts of the world. \

“Whatever advancement in the field of surgery we see today, is the result of continuous efforts of those scientists and the present experts and researchers should keep working towards modernizing Jarahat for the larger benefits of the mankind,” he added.

Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, Prof. Tafseer Ali (Organizing Chairman) highlighted the various development initiatives made by the department and discussed the objectives of the symposium.

The Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Prof Ubaidullah Khan presided over the function, while Principal, AK Tibbiya College, Prof B.D. Khan and the guests of honour Prof. Shah Alam (Head of Jarahiyat, NIUM, Bangalore) and Prof. S.M. Arif Zaidi (Former Dean, SUMER, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi) also addressed the inaugural programme.

Organizing Secretary, Dr Mohammad Tarique said that a total of seven interactive lectures were delivered in four scientific sessions. The guest speakers and resource persons who belonged to the different parts of the country included Prof. Abdul Wahid (Director Unani Services, Ministry of AYUSH UP), Prof. Afzal Anis, Prof. Atia Zaka ur Rab and Dr Wasif Mohammad Ali (Department of Surgery, JNMC, AMU), Prof. S. M. Arif Zaidi and Prof. Minhaj Ahmad (Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi), Dr Fatima Khan, Prof. Syed Shah Alam (Bangalore) and Prof. Nazar Abbas (Jaipur).

Symposium conveners, Dr Simeen Usmani and Dr Yasmeen Aziz arranged the lecture schedule and Dr Afeefa Naaz, Dr Saima Zubair, Dr Fakhara Khan, Dr Nida Saeed and Dr Shahid conducted the various scientific sessions. Dr Mohd. Tarique extended a vote of thanks.
