National Unity Day observed at Aligarh Muslim University

ALIGARH : The National Unity Day, marking the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter and the first Home Minister of independent India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, was observed throughout the Aligarh Muslim University with great enthusiasm, and the university teachers, students and staff zealously took the pledge of national unity and integrity.

At the administrative block conference hall, the AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS) administered the pledge to a large assembly of staff, proclaiming, “I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity, and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure the internal security of my country.”

Prof Veena Meheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine conducted the unity pledge to the doctors and staff at the faculty office, while the Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Prof Prof Akram Ahmad Khan administered the pledge and expressed commitment to working for the unity and integrity of the country, along with other teachers and staff.

At the Department of Business Administration, AMU Kishanganj Centre, Bihar, the faculty members took the unity pledge with great enthusiasm led by Tanishka Varshney (an MBA student). Dr. Zeba Naz stressed the importance of the Rashtriya Ekta Divas and highlighted the contribution of Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel to nation building. A unity run was also organized.

Prof Naima Gulrez, Principal, Women’s College conducted the pledge to the faculty members, students and staff of the college ad reminded them of their duty as a sincere citizen of the country in nation building.

Prof A.K. Amitava, Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology administered the unity pledge and urged the faculty members and students to give their best to the nation building and contribute to its development in whatever manner they can.

At the Department of Linguistics, the Chairperson, Prof M.J. Warsi led the pledge taking ceremony and called upon the people to do their best to maintain the unity and integrity of the country.

The staff members and captains of various clubs at the University Game Committee (UGC) took the pledge of unity under the leadership of the Secretary, UGC, Prof Amjad Ali Rizvi.

The teachers and students gathered at the Senior Secondary School (Girls) and took the pledge for unity under the leadership of the Principal, Mrs Naghma Irfan.

The Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged observed the ‘Unity Day’ through a week-long programme to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the Meri Maati Mera Desh programme.

The week-long celebration included slogan writing competition on religious harmony, a unity run and Unity pledge. Dr. Naila Rashid, Principal of the school emphasized the views of Sardar Patel and urged the teachers to inculcate a sense of belongingness in their students.

At Abdullah School, the Superintendent, Ms Umra Zaheer, after administering the unity pledge, highlighted the importance of the day as a symbol of collective strength as a Nation and urged the students to work for the integrity, peace and harmony in the country.

On this occasion, poster making (Class-V), slogan writing (Class III and IV) and card making (Class I and II) activities were organized with a large number of students participating in these events. They also delivered speeches in Urdu, Hindi and English languages.

The teachers and students at AMU City Girls High School observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas by paying homage to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel through a special assembly and exhibition of posters and slogans on the Iron Man of India. A talk was presented by Ms. Huma Siddiqui describing the vision, struggles, policies and achievements of Sadar Patel.

The Principal, Dr. Mohd. Alamgir administered the unity pledge.

Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Law, administered the unity pledge to the faculty members, students and staff and urged them to remember their fundamental duties above everything they do for their personal gains.

At the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Dermatology, JN Medical College, the Chairman, Prof Veena Maheshwari conducted the unity pledge with faculty members, students and staff attending the ceremony. She highlighted the significance of the day and remembered Sardar Patel for his role in unifying the country.

Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, highlighted the contributions of Sardar Patel in bringing the princely states into the national fold and forming India into a strong federal country. Dr Irfan Ahmad Khan conducted the pledge.

The National Unity Day was observed at the Department of Philosophy with students’ participation in poster making and slogan writing competitions. Uzma Fatma, Sana Parveen and Nida Shakeel won the first, second and the third prizes.

Dr Aquil Ahmad, Chairman of the department administered the pledge and highlighted the role of Sardar Patel in bringing about unity and integrity in the country.

At the Department of Urdu, the Chairman, Prof Qamrul Huda Faridi administered the pledge and underscored the contribution of Sardar Patel in strengthening the country in various respects.

Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College organized a week-long celebration of the unity day, with students’ participation in events like staging of a Nukkad Natak, raising a unity tree and the pledge ceremony, aimed at fostering unity and solidarity among students and teachers.

The interns and resident doctors held a Nukkad Natak at the Urban Health Training Center, conveying the messages of togetherness and unity in diversity.

The young faculty members and students engaged in raising a ‘Unity Tree’, a symbol of collective harmony, at the college gate, using an array of colorful stamps placed alongside the tree.

Later, the Principal of the college, Prof R.K. Tewari administered the unity pledge to the faculty members, students and staff, urging them to uphold the values of inclusivity, cooperation, and solidarity within the institution.

At the Saiyid Hamid Senior Secondary School, the Principal, Dr Shakeel Ahmad Alvi conducted the unity pledge and remembered the Iron man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a key role in integrating the country.

At the I.G. Hall of residence, the Provost, Prof Shaukat Haseen administered the pledge with all the wardens and students attending the ceremony.

The AMU ABK High School organized a week-long programme to mark the National Unity Day with an objective to invoke a sense of unity and integration in school students. A 3-day district level Open School Volleyball Tournament was won by the RMPS AMU City School while Al-Barkaat Public School got the runner up trophy. The primary section students took part in the Run for Unity, while senior class students wrote essays in essay competition highlighting the role of Sardar Patel in unifying India. The students of Class VI to VIII participated in slogan writing competition.

The School Principal, Dr. Samina conducted the unity pledge at a special morning assembly.
