National Workshop on Alternatives to Higher Animals in Biological Research

 

Aligarh : The Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University organized a national workshop on “Alternatives to Higher Animals in Biological Research”.

In his welcome address, Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, emphasized the workshop’s importance for learning various techniques for using Hydra and Drosophila as research models.

The chief guest, Dr. M A Akbarsha, Senior Researcher, National College, Tiruchirappalli, and General Secretary, SAAE-I praised the initiative for training the participants to conduct research using Hydra and Drosophila. He highlighted the importance of using alternatives to higher animals in biological and medical research.

Prof Mohammad Afzal, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences briefly described the achievements of the faculty members and research scholars of the Faculty of Life Sciences in general and the Department of Zoology in particular, pointing out that there are many highly cited researchers present in the Faculty.

The Organizing Secretary, Dr. Yasir Hasan Siddique said that the university’s significantly increased academic and research output is evident from the many prominent events, conferences, seminars, and workshops being organized nowadays.

The laboratory manual for the national workshop was also unveiled by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries on the occasion.
