National Youth Day celebrated in Aligarh Muslim University
Aligarh: “Swami Vivekananda was known for his focus on youth. He hoped for a better future in every child and believed that they could bring a social change,” said Prof Mohammad Afzal, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
He was delivering a lecture on ‘Swami Vivekananda and Modern Youth’ to observe the National Youth Day.
Prof M Afzal urged the university students to become nation builders, following the teaching and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda.
He highlighted the importance of the spiritual life and theory of consciousness.
Prof M Afzal’s talk was replete with quotes of philosophers, scientists and writers.
Quoting Sanskrit Shlokas, he spoke on the role of science and religion in study, character, knowledge, values, development and service.
An essay competition to mark the occasion was also held at the department. Yusra Sharf won the first prize, Swaima Sharif stood second and M Saifullah Ansari bagged the third prize. Afaq Ahmad Dar, Abid Manzoor Mir and Zeeshan Umar Shah received consolation prizes.
Dr G G H A Shadab and Dr Yasir Hasan Siddique were the programme coordinators.
