Navrachana University organises National Conference on Competition Law, Technology and IPR

Vadodara: Navrachana University, the premier multi-disciplinary private university in the region, hosted the 5th National Conference on “Navigating Competition Law, Technology, & IPR in the Digital Age” recently.

The conference, organised by Navrachana University’s School of Business and Law, brought together legal experts, academicians and practitioners, who shared their insights into the relationship between technology, competition law and intellectual property rights, especially in the light of the evolving digital landscape.

Distinguished guests, including former acting chief justice of Gujarat High Court, Justice Jayant Patel, Competition Commission of India Director Sayanti Chakrabarti, and Vadodara District Legal Services Authority’s Full-time Secretary JD Solanki graced the inaugural ceremony. Also present were Navrachana University Provost Prof Pratyush Shankar, Associate Dean Dr. Hitesh Bhatia, and Principal of Law Program Dr Sujata Patil.

In his address, Justice Patel highlighted the shift in the approach to the protection of Intellectual Property from ancient times to the present digital age and the interface between IPR and competition law.

Ms Chakrabarti, a well-known expert in competition law, spoke about emerging challenges such as antitrust issues in the digital marketplace, the impact of artificial intelligence and data analytics on competition, and the evolving nature of intellectual property protection in the digital sphere.

The inaugural session was followed by a technical session featuring paper presentations. Twenty-eight participants from reputed legal institutes presented their research papers on contemporary issues. Best research paper awards were also announced during the conference with Saksham Gadia and Lavanya Malani from Jindal Global Law School, Nishit Raj from Karnavati University, and Manush Dadlani and Siddhi Prada from Gujarat National Law University receiving the honours.

Speaking at the valedictory session, Mr Solanki spoke about the relevance of law conferences and seminars for the law fraternity and the District Legal Services Authority’s role in helping law students. The conference concluded with the reading of the report and a vote of thanks by Chandrika Tewatia Raj, the conference’s convenor.

Overall, the 5th National Conference on Competition Law, Technology and IPR in the Digital Age served as a platform for facilitating insightful interactions on contemporary developments, knowledge sharing and networking.
