NCPEDP launches Legal Aid Helpline for Persons with Disabilities

New Delhi:  The National Centre For Promotion Of Employment For Disabled People (NCPEDP), India’s leading cross-disability, advocacy organization has started a legal aid helpline that will deal with legal grievances and queries of people with disabilities across India.

Those requiring legal advice or action to take forward can call on the helpline no: +91-7303944839 or email at [email protected].

All the queries will be directed to a panel of advocates who will get in touch with the persons seeking advice. Besides consultation, legal representation will be provided wherever necessary.

Arman Ali, Executive Director, NCPEDP said that since its official launch a month ago, his team has been receiving at least 10-15 calls a day on the helpline from people with disabilities seeking consultation on different issues concerning violations of their legal and fundamental rights.

A couple of these issues include denial of employment, workplace discrimination such as denial of promotion, and denial of admission to educational institutes, etc.

“Any law is nothing but a piece of paper if not used properly. With the lack of awareness and poor implementation of law, persons with disabilities are not able to avail their rights. With the barriers like inaccessible court infrastructures and tedious court proceedings, most of the time, their right to access to justice is violated,” said Arman Ali.

“Policy and Law have been one of the pillars of NCPEDP under which we provide legal consultations and information to persons with disabilities. We request advocates and lawyers across the country to join our network and support us by providing their services pro-bono,” he added.
