New OPDs and updated facilities at Dept of Medicine

 

Aligarh : To keep up with the set goals of health promotion, disease prevention, improving access to healthcare and reducing morbidity and mortality; new Out Patient Departments (OPDs) and up to the minute, current facilities have been introduced in the Department of Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

The newly launched facilities include three PM Care Ventilators installed at Medical ICU, a video laryngoscope donated to the Medical ICU by Dr Husaini S Haider Mehdi, two new super-speciality OPDs for Geriatric Patients or Senior Citizens and Hematology, ECG services within the Medicine OPD Complex and a Patient Transport Multi-Channel Vitals Monitor.

Prof Shahid A Siddiqui (JNMC Principal), who inaugurated the OPDs and new facilities with Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine), Prof Haris M Khan (Medical Superintendent), Prof Mohd Aftab (Additional Medical Superintendent), Chairmen of various departments and faculty members stressed the need for advancement of medical facilities.

He said: “A significant turning point in the way diseases are diagnosed, treated, or prevented has the potential to extend and save lives—which is why medical advancements are vital to society for reducing the burden of disease and protect healthcare systems.

Prof Siddiqui added that the future of healthcare lies in working hand-in-hand with the updated facilities and healthcare workers have to embrace emerging technologies in order to stay relevant in the coming years.

“There is a rise in chronic conditions in the elderly people—ranging from molecular and cellular damage to respiratory diseases and various cancers and Hematology disorders such as various Anaemia, Sickle Cell Diseases and different Thalassemia. It is imperative that we have super-speciality OPDs to be better equipped to accommodate increasing daily caseload of these health issues among senior citizen”, said Prof Anjum M Chughtai, Chairman, Department of Medicine.

Prof Ehsan Qazi (Chairman, Department of Anaesthesia) demonstrated the operation of the new video laryngoscope.
