Nikhat Maqbool Mahdi, wife of Syed Shahid Mahdi, Chancellor- Jamia Hamdard passes away

Nikhat Maqbool Mahdi, wife of Syed Shahid Mahdi, Chancellor Jamia Hamdard passed away on 30th March night following a prolonged illness.

Mrs Mahdi breathed her last at her home in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. She had been suffering from illness for for quite some time.

Mrs Mahdi was thoughtful and generous, and her love for Urdu poetry and literature was admirable. She was one of the finest examples of old world tehzeeb’, full of wit and humour and warmth, having the choicest of Urdu verses for every occasion at her command and blessed with a phenomenal memory .

Mrs. Mahdi proudly used to mention about late poet Shahryar who was her class mate at Aligarh Muslim University, where she was the topper of her batch. She remembered hundreds of Urdu couplets of almost all leading Urdu poets and used to recite during conversations.

Renowned Poet Ahmad Faraz used to be very impressed with her selection of poetry, ghazal, Nazm and has even requested to mark her choice from his collections. She had very lucid style of prose writing and one of the best as a Shirin-Kalam.

Jamia Hamdard community, express deepest sympathy for the family and loved ones who has been affected by this news. Her demise has created a void which is hard to be filled in times to come.
