NIT Andhra Pradesh conducts Online Course on ‘Technical Overview of Public and Private Blockchains’

Being held from 7th to 11th February 2022, the course will be of interest to students and faculty keen to learn state-of-the-art public and private blockchains, along with IT Professionals and Researchers

TADEPALLIGUDEM : National Institute of Technology Andhra Pradesh is conducting a short-term Online Course on ‘A Technical Overview of Public and Private Blockchains’ from 7th to 11th February 2022. The Course is open to Computer Science engineers, Research Scientists interested in Blockchains, IT Professions working as Blockchain Architect, Blockchain Developers, Blockchain Network operators or a user besides students, faculty and researchers.

In this short online course being handled by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Andhra Pradesh, a ‘taxonomy based on trust’ is developed for blockchains.

The course will provide an exposure to the evolution of ‘trust’ and will draw parallels to significant societal developments in which information technology tools played a key role. This approach permits the participants to understand the origins of blockchains in a unique way.

Prof. C. S. P. Rao, Director, NIT Andhra Pradesh presided over the virtual inauguration function as the Chief Guest. Prof. C. S. P. Rao enlightened the participants with an overview on the technological evolution in the Blockchains domain and outlined the importance of comprehending this evolving domain and contribute to the R&D efforts. Prof. C.S.P. Rao wished the coordinator of the course Dr. Karthick Seshadri, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering success in organizing this first GIAN course by NIT Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Dinesh P Sankar Reddy, Registrar (i/c) NIT Andhra Pradesh presented an overview about the progress and evolution of NIT Andhra Pradesh to the participants. Dr. Vinoth Kumar Raja the coordinator of the Institute’s GIAN section highlighted about the GIAN initiative and the importance of Indian faculty collaborating with the foreign faculty in skill building. Dr. Himabindu K, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, welcomed the gathering and presented an overview about the Department of CSE, NIT Andhra Pradesh to the participants.

The primary objectives of the course are as follows:

Ø Exposing participants to the current state-of-the-art public & private blockchains,

Ø Providing tools to the participants so that they can critically evaluate which problems could benefit from this technology and those that do not,

Ø Providing exposure to architectural overview and drawing a contrast between public and private blockchains,

Ø Presenting practical problems and offering solutions through case studies in blockchains,

Ø Pointing to several research and development efforts that are underway and some challenges that lie ahead.

 

Highlighting the unique aspects of this course, the first Course Instructor Prof. Ramki Thurimella, Professor Emeritus, Department of Computer Science, University of Denver, US, spoke about the components of the course, course outcomes and expressed his best wishes for the participants of this course.

In addition to providing a comprehensive study, the course components will take a critical look at the architectural elements of public and private blockchains and discuss various trade-offs. Towards demystifying the technology behind blockchains, the course will demonstrate that not all pieces of the blockchain puzzle are created equal.

Further, the second Course Instructor Dr. Karthick Seshadri, presented an overview of the Course and introduced the foreign expert Prof. Ramki Thurimella to the gathering.

In particular, the course instructors will show that consensus mechanisms play a vital role in developing highly available distributed solutions and argue that given that foundation, building distributed applications becomes extremely easy. This argument is supported by presenting a case study involving the construction of serverless gold exchange. This short course will be concluded by discussing possible topics for future research.

The participants of this course will understand the concepts outlined above, through lectures, case studies and hands-on laboratory sessions.

Dr. Karthick Seshadri finally presented the vote of thanks to the dignitaries, GIAN, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India and the members of the Organizing committee of this programme. Dr. Nagesh Bhattu Sristy, Dr. Goutham Reddy A and Dr. Srilatha Chebrolu and Mr. Raghava Rao Manubrolu from the Department of CSE, NIT Andhra Pradesh are the organizing committee members for this GIAN Course.
