NIT Rourkela Celebrates 78th Independence Day

Rourkela : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela proudly celebrated the 78th Independence Day on its campus. The celebration commenced with Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela, hoisting the National Flag at the NCC Ground, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem.

 

Prof. Rao delivered an inspiring Independence Day address, emphasizing the importance of freedom and the role of education in nation-building. He said, “Today holds special significance for us, as it marks the day in 1961 when NIT Rourkela was established as Regional Engineering College, Rourkela. Over the past 63 years, through relentless work and dedication, the institute has achieved success across the fields of research, publications, and patents. As we continue our academic, research, and administrative endeavour, I am confident that each of us will find new opportunities to advance ourselves this year. The institute remains dedicated to instilling a sense of patriotism and pride in its students, staff, and faculty while continuing to contribute to the nation’s progress. It’s a proud day for us as we celebrate the 78th anniversary of our country’s independence. Jai Hind!”

 

Prof. Rao then administered the ‘National Integration Pledge’ to all the attendees of the event affirming the commitment of the institute’s community towards unity and national progress. Showcasing a grand display of patriotic fervour the program included a parade by students of NIT Rourkela who are enrolled in the National Cadet Corps (NCC)-Army, Navy and Air Force wings respectively. Security Guards of NIT Rourkela, Kendriya Vidhyalaya-NITR Students and REC school children also participated in the parade. The parade was inspected by the Director accompanied by Prof. Ajit Behera (Prof. in Charge of NCC), and Prof. Arun Prasath V. (Co-PIC of NCC).

 

The cultural segment of the celebration commenced with a patriotic dance performance by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya captivating the audience with their graceful movements. This was followed by a soulful recitation of a patriotic song by REC school children and a yoga performance by Yogvidhya (Student’s Yoga Club under SAC-NITR) members highlighting the importance of holistic development and wellness.

 

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the various troops who participated in the Independence Day parade, showcasing their discipline and coordination. Independence Day was also celebrated by NITR students in their respective hostels. Prof. Pradip Sarkar (Dean, Planning and Development, NITR)) hoisted the National Flag at the Technology Club of NIT Rourkela. Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar, NITR) hoisted the National Flag at the Staff Club of NIT Rourkela. As a part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, 200 flags were also distributed to faculty and staff.
