NIT Rourkela Shines in ‘QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024,’ Demonstrating Commitment to Environmental Advocacy

 

 

NIT Rourkela has secured a prominent position of 676th rank globally and 21st rank in India in the “QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024”. Using a methodology comprised of indicators designed to measure an institution’s ability to tackle the world’s greatest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) challenges, the QS Sustainability Rankings 2024 has featured over 1,400 universities from around the world. A total of 56 universities/institutes from India have been listed in this ranking, of which NIT Rourkela is positioned top among other NITs. NIT Rourkela as a new entrant, debuted in the list and received recognition for its exemplary efforts in Sustainability by QS World University Rankings. Expressing joy over this accomplishment, Prof. K. I acknowledge the diligent efforts of our students, faculty, and staff who conceptualized and implemented sustainability in their behaviour aiming towards a greener and more sustainable future.”

This recognition serves as a testament to our ongoing initiatives, such as dedicating 2 hours per week to Clean Campus Swachhata Drive, Designing Curriculum, Encouraging Research and Incubating Start-Ups aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Instilling carbon capture unit to cut down CO2 emissions, Following water, energy & waste management systems, Solar panelling, Promoting good governance, Creating awareness about physical and mental health in the campus, significantly enhancing the greenery through plantation, plastic-free campus drive etc.

The sustainability report of NIT Rourkela was compiled by the Ranking and Accreditation Cell and Sustainable Development Goals Committee of NIT Rourkela under the guidance of Prof. H. B. Sahu (Chairman, Sustainable Development Committee).
