NIT, Rourkela students to get travelling expense support

The undergraduate students of NIT, Rourkela, who were earlier not getting any support for their participation in seminar and innovative project presentation in India and abroad, will henceforth get travelling expense support to the tune of Rs 1 lakh for abroad and Rs 25,000 for within India.

This was possible due to the 1994 alumni batch for submitting a letter of intent in this respect recently with the NIT authority and establishing a corpus fund to support the research work of undergraduate students of the institute. The noble initiative of the 1994 batch alumni has received wide appreciation from different quarters.

“While there has been a provision of funds for meeting the travel expenses of post graduate students of the institute for submission of papers in national and international seminars, there is no such provision of undergraduate students and the undergraduate students of late are increasingly showing their interest in research work and paper presentation in national and international seminar,” said Dean Academics, NITR, SK Patel.

In a function at NITR, a letter of intent was handed over to PK Sahu, acting director, in presence of SK Patel, Dean, Academics of NITR. As per the letter of intent, at least two undergraduate students of the institute would avail this benefit every year, for their visit within India and abroad.

“For years, the undergraduate students of NITR had expressed the need of financial assistance to present their academic papers or innovation project o a large domestic or international audience and since there were no support for them from any corner in this respect, our class of 1994 of NITR came forward to support this,” Partha Sarathi Mohapatra, an alumni of 1994 batch, who presently has settled in the US. Significantly, while celebrating their silver jubilee alumni meet at NITR recently, as many as 104 alumni participating in the two day event, announced support to the undergraduate students through their corpus fund, for their research work.
