North-West University: QS World University Rankings reconfirm NWU to be among the best
The latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking has placed the North-West University (NWU) among the top eight South African universities in the QS World University Rankings, which were released on 8 June.
Globally, the NWU has been placed in the 1 001 to 1 200 ranking category for the 2022/2023 QS World University Rankings – the same as last year. The NWU’s performance has been consistent in this ranking category for the past four years.
The ranking by the London-based QS was the nineteenth edition and included 1 500 institutions from around the world. It considers survey responses and hard data to calculate a final score for each university.
This year QS did this by using eight indicators: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), student-to-faculty ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio (5%), international student ratio (5%), international research network and employment outcomes. The last two indicators are both unweighted and do not affect the overall ranking of a university for this year. According to QS they will only be fully included in the ranking next year.
