North-West University’s alum honoured for excellence in elementary school teaching
Mapule Sechogo, a former North-West University student and first-time entrant in the National Teachers Awards recently defied the odds when she won the Excellence in Primary School Teaching category at the awards ceremony held at the Naledi Local Education Office of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality.
“It was my first time participating in the prestigious National Teachers Awards, and to my delight, I was announced top performer in this category,” she said.
For Mapule, winning the National Teaching Award at the sub-district level was very significant and a testament to her belief in the power of academic excellence and her ability to impact the lives of learners positively.
She says her passion for education has motivated her to excel.
“Floradene Primary School, located in the heart of Colridge, is one of the few schools that cater for learners with special needs education, which aligns with my values and interests. I always encourage learners to perform to the best of their ability and explore extra-mural activities,” says Mapule.
She says her commitment to excellence was fostered at her alma mater, the NWU, where she was taught to explore matters beyond the university borders, using the information she received from her lecturers.
“The NWU has groomed me and I will forever be grateful for the knowledge I have acquired throughout my academic journey.”
“My hard work and dedication have paid off. I’m very proud of how far I have come considering that I have only limited experience as a teacher. I am very passionate about what I do, and my driving force have always been my learners,” concludes Mapule.
