North Zone Cricket Tournament: GGSIPU and HNBGU register wins

Aligarh: In a tight finish, Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University (Delhi) defeated Punjabi University (Patiala) by six runs at Willingdon Pavilion, AMU on the 9th day of North Zone cricket Tournament.

Batting second GGSIPU openers gave a good start and the team scored 114 for the loss of five wickets in 18 overs. Sakshya played an elegant knock of 42 runs facing 43 balls to give his side a formidable total and strike bowler Ryan took 3 wickets conceding just 13 run in his four over spell.

Batting second Punjabi University started slowly and could only score 108 runs in 7 overs due to some fine fielding and tight bowling from GGSIPU. Batsman Inder Preet gave some hope to PU with 26 runs off 10 balls.

In session two, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) registered emphatic win of 97 runs over Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut (SVSU). HNBGU batsman Vikrant stylish knock of 68 off 46 balls and Abhishek?s classy inning of 46 off 20 balls helped the team to score 139 in 18 over losing nine wickets.

Chasing a target of 139, SVSU were bowled out for just 42 runs in 11 over due to devastating spell of pace bowling by Rohan Rawat who took 4 wickets giving away just 14 runs.
