Novel CODE Device for Indoor Air Quality launched during the 15th Foundation Day of IIT Jodhpur

JODHPUR Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur celebrated its 15th Foundation Day on 2nd August 2022. Since its inception, the Institute has made rapid strides in Academics, Research and Development, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.

The event also hosted the launch of the Novel CODE Device for Indoor Air Quality, the first product from IIT Jodhpur’s Technology Innovation & Start-up Centre (TISC). The product is based on a cold plasma discharge for the generation of plasma detergent ions in the environment,

Along with this, IIT Jodhpur celebrated its 15th Foundation Day with two major events:

Ø  Technovate: Innovation@IITJ, with Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya, Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, as the Chief Guest and, Dr. Tapan Mishra, Former Director, SAC Ahmedabad, as the Guest of Honor

Ø  Foundation Day Commemoration event with Prof. Uday B. Desai, Professor Emeritus and Former Director, IIT Hyderabad as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya, Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, as the Guest of Honor

The event was presided over by Prof. R. Chidambaram, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Jodhpur, and attended by the faculty and staff of the Institute.

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Santanu Chaudhary, Director, IIT Jodhpur, said, “With an objective to increase innovative initiatives among the faculty and students, the Innovation ecosystem of IIT Jodhpur began on 2nd August 2019 and was integrated into the academic ecosystem of the Institute. If we are provided with proper guidance and resources, we can have ideas to identify problems; we can make strategies to address these problems for the betterment of society at large.”

 

Further Prof. Chaudhury said, “The key feature of this whole process is to have culture, insights, improvements & transformations in our ecosystem where the whole space of innovation is combinational. IIT Jodhpur is enabling its faculty to have that play In the innovation ecosystem and all these activities are embedded in the student life cycle at IIT Jodhpur.”

 

During his Presidential address, Prof. R. Chidambaram, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Jodhpur, said, “An environment has been created at IIT Jodhpur to help students innovate. Innovation is clearly linked to creativity which involves social, economic, and strategic values. Innovation should not be an individual effort but a collective effort to convert an idea into a successful outcome.  Our younger generation should come together to apply their knowledge and skills to utilise local skills and materials to address the lack of innovation.”

The event started with showcasing the outstanding work done related to innovation activities at IIT Jodhpur through the Institute’s:

Ø  Technology, innovation & Startup Centre

Ø  iHub Drishti – Technology Innovation Centre

Ø  Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Foundation

Ø  Technology Park

Addressing the Institute during this grand occasion, Hon’ble Chief Guest, Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya, Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, said, Higher Educations Institutions like IIT Jodhpur and BITS Pilani are dedicated to the service of the nation. The students here engage in creativity, purposeful play and innovation with problem solving attitude. Various student-run cultural, technical, entrepreneurship and sports events help them learn the ropes of planning and executing of projects. Our Higher Education Institutes have created their own world inside the campuses and in the process pick up wonderful scales.”

Speaking during the event, the guest of Honor, Dr. Tapan Mishra, Former Director, SAC Ahmedabad, said, “One should focus on building the leadership and never compromising on ethics and the quality of work. The quality of leadership will determine the organisational ethics, organisational culture and management excellence and all of these will lead to better innovation and quality outcomes.”

 

“We should never focus on success but focus on failure as failures teach us something which success doesn’t. When it comes to progressing in what you do and improving yourself, age Is not a bar”, added Dr. Mishra while concluding his address.

Aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP2020), IIT Jodhpur has imparted a major boost to the entrepreneurial aspirations of the younger generation.

 

Mr. Lal Chand Bisu, Co-Founder of Kuku FM, and Alumnus (First batch) of IIT Jodhpur said, “I was in the first batch of IIT Jodhpur and started my journey from being a student to an entrepreneur in 2008. The Institute’s vision to motivate the students to become job creators and not job seekers encouraged me to become an entrepreneur. I suggest all the students to take benefit of the Institute’s innovation ecosystem that encouraged me to think differently and explore various opportunities to build a successful company.”

Apart from this, the event also included signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIT Jodhpur and M/s Kritikal Solutions Pvt. Ltd. to set up an R&D Centre at IIT Jodhpur Technology Park to focus on diverse fields including Vision systems, image processing, Artificial Intelligence, Computer visions, Software systems and embedded systems.

Foundation Day Commemoration

 

This event focused on honoring IIT Jodhpur’s faculty and staff members for their outstanding achievements throughout the year. The event started with the launch of TeleScape: Foundation Day 2022 Issue and IITJ at a Glance followed by Foundation Day Oration by the Chief Guest.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Uday B. Desai, Professor Emeritus and Former Director, IIT Hyderabad, and Chief Guest, Foundation Day Commemoration event at IIT Jodhpur, said, “I congratulate IIT Jodhpur on completing 14 outstanding years of excellence. Younger IITs are giving competition to older IITs and since Prof. Chaudhary has taken charge as the Director at IIT Jodhpur, the Institute’s growth has been absolutely phenomenal. At the same time, I would like to congratulate the faculty and students as no Director alone can achieve such big milestones. I think he needs full cooperation and full support from both the faculty as well as the students.”

 

Further, Prof. Desai mentioned“Research and Innovation make Institutions great. Dissent is the soul of research. But working on research is only one part of the project and bringing it to the market for the betterment of society at large is equally important. Developing a Cooperative-Competitiveness and creating an intellectual ecosystem are important key points for Institution building. Along with this Faculty empowerment is the strength of IIT system. It must be brought to all 2nd generation IITs to build a strong foundation for the newer IITs.”

 

With a vision of ‘shaping the future by creating it’, IIT Jodhpur’s Moonshot Project inspires to look beyond the horizon of ‘possible future’ and empower us to innovate a holistic, equitable and prosperous future. Faculty members from the Institute submit their entries for such ideas which are subjected to scrutiny by an expert committee. six such ideas were recognised for the award during the event.
