NRLM Ganderbal organizes Nowbahar Mela
Ganderbal : The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) Ganderbal on Wednesday organized a daylong Nowbahar Women Mela for Self Help Groups to showcase and exhibit the traditional/ ethnic products and food courts in Kangan area.
The Chairperson of District Development Council Ganderbal, Nuzhat Ishfaq was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, the DDC Chairperson highlighted the role of women in changing and transformation of societies and said that the women in present times are leading and serving at different positions.
She encouraged members to move forward and appreciated their initiatives and assured these Self Help Group members of every possible support to further strengthen the ambit of self-help in the rural fabric of remote and backward areas of Ganderbal district.
The District Programme Manager Ganderbal (DPM) Shareen Shafi speaking on the occasion highlighted the historical background of the concept of self help and said that this concept has been derived from Gandhian philosophy of self-sufficiency.
She said the self-help programme is growing at a fast pace in Ganderbal district and presently 1517 Self Help Groups with 13653 members are registered with NRLM Ganderbal and are earning their livelihood.
She said that various SHGs have registered their success stories by not only earning livelihood for themselves but also provided employment opportunities to others.
Various other speakers, successful artisans spoke on the occasion and shared their experience.
On the occasion, various stalls were established by Horticulture, Agricultural, DIC Ganderbal and SHGs to demonstrate their potential of craftsmanship.
Members of SHG Groups and a large number of people were present on the occasion.
