NSS, NCC units of GCW Udhampur organize cleanliness drive

 

UDHAMPUR: To commemorate World Environment Day, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with Environment Science Department and 2nd Battalion NCC organized a cleanliness drive took an initiative to clean a bowli/spring in adopted village, Rathian here today.

The drive was organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of GCW Udhampur under the guidance of Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr) Monika Sharma.

About 80 NSS volunteers and NCC cadets accompanied by Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Rathian, Diwan Singh, Naib Sarpanch, Anil Sharma, NSS Programme Officer Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Professor Dr. Kamaldeep Kour, ANO NCC and Assistant Professor EVS, Rajiv Singh, participated in the cleanliness drive and cleaned the bowli and its surrounding areas.

While speaking on the occasion, HoD Philosophy (NSS Programme Officer) Prof. Sanjay Kumar told the volunteers and cadets that the village Rathian has been adopted by the NSS unit of the college as part of the community engagement programme of NSS. He further said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness among the masses, especially youth, to conserve the environment in the highest interest of mankind.

Among others, Assistant Professor Dr. Kamaldeep Kour, ANO NCC. Assistant Professor EVS, Rajiv Singh, senior faculty members, prominent citizens, locals and large numbers of volunteers & NCC cadets were also present in the drive.
