UNICEF is hosting the India launch of its global flagship publication on the issue of children’s mental health in India. Experts will analyze how we can improve mental health among children, especially given the COVID-19 pandemic, and champion children’s right to protection and services. The launch was held at Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi on 5 October 2021 and present at the launch were Dr Yasmin Ali Haque, Representative, UNICEF India, Dr Roderico H Ofrin, World Health Organization India Representative, Guest of Honor Professor (Dr) Pratima Murthy, Director, NIMHANS, Chief Guest Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Mr. Yasumasa Kimura, Deputy Representative, UNICEF, India, Ms. Zafrin Chowdhury, Chief, Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships, UNICEF India, Luigi D’Aquino, Chief of Health, UNICEF India Country Office. In the State of the World’s Children 2021, UNICEF took a comprehensive look at the mental health of children, adolescents and caregivers in the 21st century. According to the report, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on children’s mental health.

Number of MBBS seats in the country has now crossed the 1 lakh mark: Health Minister

Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that number of MBBS seats in the country has now crossed the one lakh mark. In a tweet, Dr. Mandaviya informed that in 2014, there were only 51,348 MBBS seats which have now gone up to one lakh one thousand and 43. In the case of PG seats, he said, it has increased from 31 thousand 185 in 2014 to 65 thousand 335 seats in 2023.
