Nutrition week related programmes held

ALIGARH : The Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University organized events to observe the National Nutrition Week, including the cooking competition “No flame, no fire”, essay writing competition, slogan writing competition, speech competition and a street play (Nukkad Natak) at the Centre of Continuing Adult Education and Extension, AMU.

The Chairperson of the department, Dr. Saba Khan shared insights into the significance of nutrition and how the nutritious food is essential for a healthy life, especially for women.

The participants of the cooking competition showcased their culinary skills by preparing Indian and Japanese dishes. Shagufta Naaz, Lubna Khalid, Sidra Khan and Ruby were declared winners of the competition.

Iram Fatima of B.Sc. and Iram Naaz, Farheen Malik emerged as the winners of the essay writing competition held on the topic “The connection between nutrition and mental well being,” while Anupriya Raghav was declared the winner of the slogan writing competition, themed “Think before you bite : Choose right”.

The speech competition on “Feed Smart Right from the Start” was won by Afeefa Khan, Iram Fatima and Afreen Arif. The event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of proper nutrition choices from the very start of an individual’s life.

A group of students from the department visited the Centre of Continuing Adult Education and Extension and staged a street play there on “Poshan ka Mahatva” (Importance of nutrition). They also organized an activity on hygiene and sanitation by using different teaching aids.

Dr Iram Aslam and Dr Mariyam Fatima played a key role in organizing the nutrition week related programmes.
